Jebus that thing is FAST!!!! Absolutely ridiculous!!! |
Running 1400/700 springs now. 1.25" front, SPM .56" rear on full stiff. Hyper is on 1300/600 I think.
|
^ Yep, 1300/600 currently. 1.25" x 0.188" front Karcepts bar (zero bushing or arm flex), 15mm rear. Not quite enough spring for the Hoosiers in the dry I suspect.

When Vegas is running on 275/295 with the full skirted flat bottom, giant diffuser and another 150whp, I suspect it will need something like 1700/900. Strange territory we are venturing into. |
Ryan, will you be running NASA TT at all? I'm wondering if your car can fall in TT2, could be a chance at some more purple crack :D

I was thinking last night that we should bring some stiffer springs for your setup. Rig is gone so we'll have to fly with them, ugh.

Also, current front aero does not fit TT1-3 dimensional restrictions. I have plans to make an alternate front for TT2 at some point. Other than the front aero, the car can fit in TT2 with a bit of ballast. Pretty sure I'd run it on Rivals like I do in GTA; there's an additional power:weight allowance for >100 tw tires so could run less ballast, and I'm already doing TT2 record pace / borderline TT1 pace on the street tires at SoCal tracks. |
Ryan, no license needed for TT in NASA. You guys are giving me evil thoughts about a new front splitter. The current one is removable. Swapping in a more robust one for TT and more rear wing (& end plates) should help with downforce. |

Ryan, no license needed for TT in NASA. I've got hard TT Licence cards going back 6+ years. $20 a year to renew, application process, DE4 check rides, etc. |
It’s all the chronic up here :-) I should have checked current rules before making statement though. Was not long ago I raced without license in TT. If it’s changed I have not heard of it. Makes sense no license since most of the cars are not race prepped. Update....Just confirmed you need one up here now too. I wish I could neg cat myself! Carry on....sorry to pollute a fine thread. |
I've pos catted your request for a neg cat. Sometimes you just can't get what you want ;)

All this license talk made me realize I never received my hard copy of my TT license. Still have the receipt, so I'm still gtg.
Weather is looking a tad better, mostly for Sunday lol. Maybe Team Just Gonna Send It will be able to poke the TTE record. Even though I haven't been to ViR in 3 years and I think it's been 6+ years for Dan  Whatever, I'm packing sticker tires just in case. |
My car is still at the shop getting pulled back into the correct shape, but I'll likely swing by with the kid on Saturday to BS with people. The NASA-MA PTE and TT records are stupid soft at VIR.
Hope you guys got wets. For weather you'll want to look at 'Alton, VA' or 'Milton, NC.' |
Just landed at GSO, watching the forecast for Alton, VA. Friday (UTCC) is guaranteed wet with a 60% chance of rain in the AM building to full bore 100% by noon. Saturday not much better, Sunday is currently predicting AM showers. Might be a chance for good lap times for the ST/TT guys on Sunday.

yeah its been raining all damn week out here. not typical.
|
It's spring in the southeast, nothing is typical.

Yea this is hyperfest so farhttps://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...39802f2634.jpg

Looking good guys https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...86710e4cb2.jpg

It's weird seeing your cars on the right coast. It's also totally dry down in Raleigh right now. You guys just barely got hit.

Pretty sure we were fastest and morning warm-up sessions by several seconds but they were not picking up our transponder. First timed session to quality for the knocout round is at 11:45.
|
Is there a live video feed anywhere?
|
Splitter is blocking our hardwired transponder which is buried behind a bunch of ducting and the oil cooler. Impossible to get to quickly so we're going to throw a rechargeable on the back. 115 through the esses, 150 on back straight.. in the wet.
|
115 at the top of the hill? That's crazy fast in the wet.
|
They were on Race Monitor a few years ago, I don't see anything right now though.
|
its kinda a shame, that's such a great course.

OFFICIAL MESSAGE AT 2018-05-18 13:20:14 412, 512, 13 DQ Timed Sessions 1 and 2 for spin / four off. |
wouldn't their slow times disqualify them by default?

Did they really DQ people for spinning in the rain?
Spin past 70* or more than 2 off is a DQ for that session. |
|
|
did it go into the tire wall? Need more updates!!!!
|
Lol, what about the driver.
Is Ryan ok? |
Ryan ok?? Superficial damage or did it contact?

Yes everyone fine. Car not so much. Mostly aero damage https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...adb150918c.jpg

Grassroots Motorsports has a few live videos posted on their page.
Manny and Emilio are posting live from Supermiata facebook as well. Facebook Post Facebook Post |
Ryan is ok. Splitter is tore up and pretty much unusable.
So utcc is split up into a and b groups. A group before us had no less than 3 full course yellows and they kept restarting the group. They were on track for 45 minutes. B group just afterwards got one full course yellow and they stopped the session. The track was fully wet about a half hour before we went out so we mounted the H2O s. They delayed getting our group on track 20 minutes for a spun car. By the time out I got out it was a full dry line. So I dove back into the pit to swap to A7 scrubs. Started pouring on the out lap. Aargh! So my best time lap was on slicks in the wet. Scared the shit out of myself but I made the cut. If the track gets faster we will go a lot faster. If it does not get any faster than we're good for tomorrow. Ryan is pretty sulken right now as you might imagine. We are trying to talk him into rigging up some other splitter. We have enough pieces and Hardware here to put something together that will work. We will have to trim the rear wing way out and he will lose some downforce but the top end speed will probably go up. |
There's a Home Depot in Danville about 30-35 minutes from the track...if one needed to make a impromptu run to HDR for aero materials... |
Glad Ryan and for the most part the car is ok. Looks all superficial, can't get away from that too much with how much both the splitter and wing stick out. Y'all are there, fix and head back out!
|
TMI also has most of a machine shop at VIR. Cozy up to the guys in the store that's in north paddock. I've seen them press out bearings for people mid-weekend in the past so they may be able to help out.
|
Second of three times sessions and I botched everything. Hard wired transponder wasn't picking up. Swapped our backup rechargeable transponder in but it was on zero charge. So we had it on the charger before I went out and forgot to put it back on the car. Then I chucked it off in turn one after setting fast lap of all UTCC cars that session. But of course it wasn't recorded. In any case, NASA DQ's you for that session and the next two, if you go four off. Open practice and last time session in about an hour but I can't run them. As it stands now I am in the top 20. If the track does not get any faster in the last session, I will make the shootout tomorrow.
Splitter is bent up but I think we can bring it back to 95% original shape it'll just be even uglier. Unfortunately I broke the end plates and second element off the GT1000. So it will be way down on rear downforce but it might still be faster. We will see. |
DQ'd from 3 sessions for a single 4-off??? What the actual fuck, NASA.
|
That's not how they run normal TT so no idea where that is coming from.
|
Rain is a beyotch. I admire you guys for going out and putting down fast laps in the damp. Luckily it sounds like damage to both cars is fairly minimal.
|
I spoke too soon. Only dq'd from the session with the four off. Sean is trying to jerry-rig my front end now so I can go back out.
Anyone near vir that wants to loan or sell me an APR GT 250 foil with 31" mount centers? |
that Nikon, however, is missing the rubber eye-piece...
|
John had an idea. Our wing had the nutserts pulled out of either end so there's nothing to attach the end plates onto.
So so we went into town to a Fastenal and bought two 6' lengths of 1/4 20 threaded rod. Clamp the end plates on. No second element but we basically have a GT 250 again. |
What happened to session 3?
Nevermind, just checked my FB. https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...75&oe=5B7AC183 That's a first. |
Holy jeez |
Wow.
|
Because the B group did not get their third session and AA group got the only dry track of the day, GRM decided to give us another opportunity tomorrow. Ryan and I both get another shot but it will probably be wet so we will be lucky to make the top 15 I think.

Bummer to see weather be such an issue. Best of luck today to both of you. |
Sonny is fine. 3rd in TTU while scrubbing A7's. We are 1st ir2nd fastest in the wet so that's ok too.
Irony is the only UTCC session today coincides with the vonlt real rain today. Dry before and after. So I won't get a chance to do anything. I'm not even going out today. No point. I won't go any faster than I did yesterday and only risk messing up Sonny's chances by bending it again. Sonny has an excellent chance at podium in SU & TTU both days. |
|
We got Ryan back out finally. Big grins all around.
|
Love this. Keep the updates coming Emilio. We are all living vicariously here: you and Ryan have built the Miatas we all want to build, you are at the event we all want to go to, racing against the cars we would all love to beat.
Results from this event could set a real real precedent for what this platform is capable of. |
