2014 Corvette Live Unveiling NOW

Thought a few of you might be interested in this. The next generation of Corvette is being unveiled live at 7pm ET. Hopefully it's as impressive as the jump from C4 to C5 and C5 to C6 were.

pdexta 01-13-2013 07:06 PM

7 speed manual, cylinder deactivation, carbon fiber roof and hood on base model vettes, 100lbs lighter, 57% stiffer chassis, looks good so far!

18psi 01-13-2013 07:12 PM

oh snap

pdexta 01-13-2013 07:15 PM

Looks like a GTR and a Viper had a baby.

miatauser884 01-13-2013 07:20 PM

I like it!

G3ML1NGZ 01-13-2013 07:21 PM

I like the rear end of it.

and in a good way

there's one angle from which it looks kinda weird. like the rear is so much larger than the front, looks awkward.

from the side, front, and rear it looks excellent IMO

Ryan_G 01-13-2013 08:02 PM

From what I have seen so far they really did a great job with the c7. I have never been a fan of the vette but this one I really like, especially the interior updates.

Mazduh 01-13-2013 08:46 PM

It looks like it should be mid-engined... But I like it.

baron340 01-13-2013 09:43 PM

It makes me feel like GM set out to make the joe-schmo 458 Italia, and they seem to have hit the nail right on the head.

Vashthestampede 01-13-2013 09:49 PM

Not sure how I feel about it. The back and sides look good (from what I can see), but the front looks a little off.

slmhofy 01-13-2013 10:01 PM

Holy shit! That thing really does look nice!

Chilicharger665 01-13-2013 10:09 PM

Hot Wheels rear end. American 458 Italia front end.

RedCarmel 01-13-2013 10:35 PM

I'd like to see Jeremy Clarkson talk shit on this one.

Well that is inevitable.. I dunno if I like it more or less than the c6. So many vents..https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1358135030

chpmnsws6 01-13-2013 10:57 PM

This car gives me wood.

rleete 01-14-2013 05:38 AM

Will never be able to afford it, don't really care.

Never? Or just not when new? :) Corvettes are crazy performance for the price and now that they seem to have focused a lot of time and money on the interior and aero, I expect the C7 to be outstanding.

The main question will just be whether you can dig the appearance - but that's true of most any car.

18psi 01-14-2013 09:41 AM

I've seen a mint low mile 06 base vette for like 23.5 a few months ago.

This gives me much hope that I might own one someday.

Tikiman12 01-14-2013 09:43 AM

I will be buying one. I love the style I love the technology. Every single nut and bolt, body line, new technology, is specifically designed for use in this car. This is a race car for the street with luxury.

I've daily driven a corvette since 2005, I'm on my 3rd one right now lol.

nitrodann 01-14-2013 10:33 AM

They must have asked some primary school hot wheels enthusiasts what styling cues to go with and then used every single suggestion. It's some serious over design.

No such thing, but I see why you believe that.

krissetsfire 01-14-2013 11:33 AM

I like it. That's ok dan you can drive around in your 350hp gt2560r miata running e85 while I'm rollin this bad boy. wooorrrrdddd.

;) i kid man. Different strokes for different folks!

sixshooter 01-14-2013 11:51 AM

I can hear the prices on used C6's dropping from all the way over here.

yikes...looks like someone needs to learn how to copy/pasta

viperormiata 01-14-2013 12:33 PM

That is the ugliest fucking corvette I have ever seen.

I cannot be the only one who thinks this.

thenuge26 01-14-2013 12:35 PM

Damn, I was looking for 19 pictures of the shift knob. But you only posted 18 :(

I agree, partially.

I think the front end looks pretty good, but mostly because it looks like a Ferrari.

I think the rear end is awful. Really, really, awful. It looks like a Camaro rear-end on steroids, in a bad way. BARF

rleete 01-14-2013 12:43 PM

I wouldn't go so far as to call it ugly, but it has lost a lot of the Corvette character. If you removed all the badges, I would find it easy to believe it was from Ferrari or Lambo or someone else. It's too "generic supercar" for my tastes.

Agree with the "Hot Wheels" styling cues comment as well. It's just too over the top.

Scrappy, buy the time this car is something I can afford, I'll be 75, and have no more interest in a car like it.

Tikiman12 01-14-2013 12:45 PM

holly crap. I did copy and paste. Sorry guys.

IDK what happened. this forum does this crap to me all the time

cowboys647 01-14-2013 12:56 PM

Looking at the back side kinda makes me think Tiburon..

I am sorry to hear about your (A) abject poverty and/or (B) serious misallocation of resources - like having a family or a home or retirement savings or other frivilous non-necessesities.

:D

Zabac 01-14-2013 02:00 PM

Too much Cadillac design for me, front and interior do impress me.

I'm sorry to hear about your gross elitism. A good 70% of america couldn't afford this car, even used.

I DO agree it offers GREAT price to performance ratio though.

rleete 01-14-2013 02:15 PM

I think he wqas joking. I'm not exactly poor. Just exceedingly cheap. Braineack *2.

Haha, well I guess I missed the joke.

I don't think anyone who has a toy car like a turbo miata is *poor*, but then again - that depends on your definition of poor.

OTOH I think most of us here are cheap, lol.

I assume it's because they have learned a lot from endurance racing. It looks "generic supercar" because there are only so many ways to skin a cat. The headlights look like 458 headlights because (I assume) they are designed to flow air around the side mirrors.

As for the rear end, I assume that is also ugly for aerodynamic reasons.

Yeah, I was kidding. Thus the second half of the sentence in which I described "a family or a home or retirement savings" as frivilous. :)

I would argue with you about your second sentence, though. A 10-year old used Corvette in average condition is about $15k. The average price of a new car sale has hit $30k in recent times. I am not sure how to find the average price of a used car, but the average price in 2011 for a one to three year old trade in was about $23k according to KBB.

I can't remember if Roger is the guy that daily drives a Geo Metro, but I am sure it is more about not ever being able to justify the purchase of a Corvette versus being able to afford the purchase. I can totally respect that, by the way. :)

rleete 01-14-2013 05:07 PM

Geo Metro? Sheesh, I do have a tiny shred of self respect left.

No, I drive a 10 year old P.O.S. Jeep, because I'm too cheap to buy anything newer/better. I also need something that will tow the camper we bought a while back.

Funny, I used to own a 'vette. 1977. What a pig. But it looked cool, I was young, and the chicks liked it. Sold it for what I paid for it, 10k and 3 years later.

I think you are talking about Robert (red lightning).

I normally hate new cars, but I love the looks of this car. I will probably never justify buying a car over $20,000, but this makes me want to loosen the restraint on that wallet a little.

18psi 01-14-2013 05:51 PM

Speaking of rcmpeewe (or whatever his name is) in addition to the metros he has a LS1 miata

rharris19 01-14-2013 05:55 PM

I think he sold it a little while ago.

Fun fact: I also owned a Corvette when I was younger. It was a good performer, I liked the targa and the hatch was surprisingly practical. I drove it for about a year and also sold mine for about what I paid for it. :) I think it was about 5-6 years old.

Miater 01-14-2013 09:48 PM

SO UGGllyy

I can't wait to see the videos of these being eff'ed up by stupid with money.

Negative. I don't dislike the car. I'm sure it will be very promising on the track and the street (not to mention I can't wait to see it on Top Gear so Jeremy can make more shit up about why it sucks because of it's place of origin).

I've always loved 'vettes because they were fast, relatively inexpensive and very pretty. Well, not anymore. The new 'vette is hideous (my opinion, of course). The car looks so much like "everything else" that it's disappointing, and almost to the point of being expected. Yes, the majority of new cars are shockingly hideous.

He really liked the ZR1.

But. Does it have to be so huge? The C5s and C6s were not small cars. This one has a longer wheelbase and wider track.

C2s are about the size of a miata. GM continues to build the Corvette for the people who are buying them (50+ who remember the C2s new) instead of for the people buying GT-R's.

I like this car, but I wish it were smaller. I look at it and think "LT1 swap zomg"

Mobius 01-15-2013 12:50 PM

Yeah, ok. He drifts the Audi and says it handles great, then drifts the ZR1 and complains about how tail happy it is, when he's obviously overdriving the car. Traction circles, yo!

Other than Hammond, they only reluctantly give praise to anything we make. It's part of the whole British "we were a global superpower once, and we're not now, and we hate it, and look at what our colonies have done" complex.

My sister-in-law currently lives near London, and mentioned a conversation at dinner the other night with her neighbors. They were all quite positive that Monopoly was invented by Britons.

Hmm. Wheelbase doesn't really tell you much about the overall dimensions. The base C6 Corvette had a length of 174.6", a width of 72.6" and a height of 49" from what I can find.

The C7 is: 177", 73.9" and 48.6" respectively. So it is a bit longer and wider, and about as low.

I don't think this is accurate. The C2 was the '63 - '67 if I have my generations correct. A '63 coupe was:

175.3", 69.6" and 49.8" according to VetteFacts.com

A 1953 C1 (the first model year, I believe) would have been:

167.0", 72.2" and 52.1"

It also cranked out 150 BHP (and 223 torques) from it's 236 CI inline six cylinder. :)

Tikiman12 01-18-2013 03:24 PM

My dad has had a '66 corvette in the garage for since I was born and I can tell you that it is not a small car, my miata is dwarfed by it.

and the '66 is every comparable to my pervious C5 and my current C6 in size. but you can tell that it is more narrow from mirror to mirror then the C6 (well the 66 only has one mirror #classichotrod)
