Impressive. But I'd take the Ariel Atom!

That whip ain't clearing any speed humps.

UrbanSoot 06-08-2010 04:26 AM

holy shit thats fast!

NA6C-Guy 06-08-2010 06:16 AM

I'd also take the Atom. Still impressive. Still ugly as sin though.

Laur3ns 06-08-2010 06:52 AM

Apex speed fail.

KPLAFIN 06-08-2010 06:52 AM

+1 for Atom, thing looks like a pile of elephant turd.

NA6C-Guy 06-08-2010 07:10 AM

Especially considering that pile is $50k for the good one, and built it yourself. The base K20 powered Atom is also right at $50k, and prebuilt...

Rennkafer 06-08-2010 10:38 PM

Let's see... the DP4 is lighter, quicker, has AWD, and costs ~$50k for a DIY version and looks at least similar to a proper race car.

The Atom is heavier, slower, 2WD, and costs $50k for a pre-built version I'd have to disassemble and make sure it's put together right before it ever hit a track anyway, and it looks like it's half finished.

I'll take the DP4...

hustler 06-08-2010 11:02 PM

DP4, please.

jeff_man 06-08-2010 11:44 PM

fuck that car, i want to run that track

magnamx-5 06-08-2010 11:47 PM

Do you plan on hardparking it? Are you worried about being easy on the eyes of other drivers as you quickly transition from their mirrors to their windshield and disappear?

The prototype is still being shaken down and was experiencing a few gremlins that day. If Dennis wanted to cane it properly, he would've had no trouble.

-"The car has LOTS more to give but this being a basic test day we weren't going to push it too hard."

-"At 1.5g it's nowhere near the limit"

Sparetire 06-09-2010 09:21 AM

With more ground clearance/signals would the DP4 be road legal-able/useable?

chpmnsws6 06-09-2010 09:33 AM

Whats road legal matter when you have either? If you can fork down the 50k for it, you can drop the needed cash for a 2,000 dollar trailer your old ladies SUV can pull.

levnubhin 06-09-2010 09:36 AM

Yes please.

At 800lbs and with a 68" wheelbase you can throw it on a Harbor Freight utility trailer and tow it with a Miata.

Wish I'd been there to see it run. That's the same outfit I run track days with and built the V8 hyabusa engined Atom I took pictures of last year. I've never been terribly impressed by the guys driving, he's really a bike guy. Looks like that was going to be a 2:03/2:04 lap. I turn pretty consistent 2:07/2:08 laps on the same track with some really old Avons. I'm hoping to run a couple seconds quicker this season with new rubber. Pfadt racing's Z06 turns 1:56/1:57 laps.

ORP is a great damn track. We're lucky to have it in the NW now. Pacific and PIR aren't up to snuff with what you Cali and TX guys have available.
