hahah memorys, i was maybe 14 back then and would jump the from the top of the hill over the sand, bounce off the invisible wall over where the tires are and land on the bottom while over take cars mid air.

tried it in forza 2 racing johnwag, i just totaled the car i was driving and landed on his.

I saw two cars get together at turn 11 on Sunday, that was the worst I witnessed all weekend. I guess I should have spent more time at the top of the hill...

Indeed.

On a side note, that's the first time I've seen a red miata with a yellow hardtop. (other than my own). Ronald Mc-goddamn-Donald!

Braineack 08-20-2009 03:42 PM

I like the screams about 5 seconds in; probably the owner.

Wrecks happen in Historic racing. That guy got off fairly easy as far as wrecks go. Couple years ago in Portland, no huge array of Ferrari's but the big block guys all came charging down to the chicane. Guy in a real 427 cobra lost it under heavy braking in the middle of the pack. Took out his car, a 67 vette, a 50's aluminum bodied Alfa Romeo along with another couple less notable cars. Alfa was damaged heavily but able to continue. The others were all towed off the track.

That driving skill poster could just as easily say "slow cars should point the big boys by".

I want a mc burger now

NA6C-Guy 08-20-2009 05:55 PM

Surely that was a brake failure or something. You would think you would make it a point to know the track before running a historic car like that. Besides, who doesn't know that turn?

Braineack 08-20-2009 05:57 PM

probably brake failure.

It is an Italian car after all!

Yes, brake failure. Monterey 2009: Ferrari 250 TR gets airborne, makes friends with tire wall — Autoblog

And this was emailed to the dad of one of the local Miata owners here by a friend who knows the driver:

Hi,

Yes, I've seen it [the video], and it's a shame it's being distributed (although I understand the "appeal").

I've known David Love, the driver, for years and years. David has owned the TR since 1964 -- he paid something like $6500 for it, and it's now worth somewhere around $10M. Several years ago David was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. He has been well controlled with medicine -- he and I have talked at some length about this, and I've allowed (and encouraged) him to race in my series when he could. We've also discussed when he should stop, and I think it may be time. David is an extremely intelligent guy, and I think he knows -- I just suspect the emotion is very difficult.

David wasn't hurt, and the damage to the car is minor and won't affect its value. I just can't imagine David without his TR, and I suspect he can't either.

Thanks for the clip.

While I love vintage Italian cars, I couldn't see racing a car that rare and expensive. While if you can afford one in the first place, you probably aren't THAT worried about cost. I would be too paranoid to even take it on the street. Which is why I will never own a vintage car like that. Even if I could afford one, I wouldn't want to leave it locked up in a garage.

I would have no problem driving them in reverse though.
