The bike put together with the race plastics is amazing.
You are correct, sir. The color is off more than it looks but not bad for a $28 quart of paint and plenty good for track plastics.

Wow. Thank you so much for all those links.

I've heard of this before quite a bit, but every time I kept putting it off cause a car is just so huge to do with a brush/roller and mine isn't exactly cheap enough not to care if it turns out like ****.

The bike though, is cheap enough for me to wanna do this.

Which color (from their selection) do you think best matches this:

I'm thinking Kingston Gray?

Anyways, I started changing the oil today. Went to all the stores and no one has a filter OR the oil it needs. ****. Going to hit up a few MOTO stores tomorrow and hopefully get the k&n filter KN-191 and Mobil 15w-50 redline mt4 that I need.

Rode it today some more:
This thing is really gutless down low, which kinda irritates me. It REALLY likes to be wound out all the way past 8 to get REALLY moving.

Oh well I'll get used to it.
Next bike will definitely be something torquey like an sv or something..

I heart my sv1000s, power from 3k to 11k, and the front wheel is typically off the ground. Envy me.

OK world superbike champion, let's see who dies first!

But seriously, if you want something torquey, try a sv1000, I have been riding it for 1.5 months and it's a blast every time I ride it. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I <3 buell. Xb or 1125r. Lots and lots of torque and amazing handling. Although I do love sv1000's, and rc51's as well. I'm a v twin guy I guess.

Im looking for a buell now, will make a thread once I get one.

Don't do it. That will be solid grey, like battleship grey. It won't have any metallic and would look like ***. They only make solid colors so stick to red, blue, white or something along those lines.

I bet that "Largo Blue" will look badass on the 600.

In that case I might go with SAPHIRE BLUE or DARK BLUE since that's close to one of the OEM colors as well.

Did an oil+filter change today.

86 bux for oil and filter.

Snapped a pic:

I now changed my mind about the silver per Steins recommendation.

Now trying to decide between white and dark blue.
Leaning towards white now
Damn you guys

I've wanted to do this, but only with a black frame and accents...never liked white and silver/alum/chrome.

I think it would work really well with this bike between the black frame and the little scoops on the front. The contrast would work better with black wheels as well though.

White would work well with the roller method. It will take multiple coats, though. When you thin with the brushing liquid it gets very watery and there aren't a lot of solids to build up and hide things.

Buy some light grey sandable primer in spray cans and shoot all of the parts first to even out the colors for better coverage.

When I repainted mine after the off I had done a bit of bondo and sanding. It took five coats to cover the different colors of primer, sealer, gel, paint that I had sanded through. If (when) I have to paint the track plastics again I will definitely prime to even the colors out first.

Ha! already got that
I will have to patch up a few small cracks on the left side fairing, as well as bondo a few deep scratches on the right, so both fairings will be sanded down significantly, repaired, and I have about 10 cans of light gray sandable primer already sitting here to cover all the plastics about 5 times over lol.

I'm trying to decide about the carbon fiber tail. Just feels criminal to paint all of it and hide all that sexy carbon fiber. Was thinking of leaving part of it showing, and just hit it up with a little clear.

What year is it? How does a $15 filter and a $25 gallon of motorcycle oil cost $86? My math makes that $40.

Its a 2002

and I forgot to mention the rebate Cycle Gear was having. I had to by an extra quart (5 instead of 4) and they will refund me for it (12 bux). so in reality its 74 total.

5 quarts of Mobil1 Racing 4T 12/quart + tax - 71
k&b oil filter 13 or 14 + tax - 15

**** is expensive :(

I would leave it with either the white/black scheme, or just black. I'd want to cover it with almost any other color.

And yes, the Triumphs HAVE to be fed that Mobil 1 Racing Synthetic...**** got real expensive real fast. Hell, the oil cost more than the tires on a cost/mile basis.

Alright, so after a lot of discussion with the wife and getting a few opinions of friends I ordered the SAPPHIRE BLUE color.

Also ordering a bolt kit from pro-bolt so that all my fasteners and screws holding the plastics are the same color and none missing.

Once everything comes in I think I'll start on the bodywork in a few weeks.

Paint came in. Need to pick up some strong glue/cement and some plastic filler for the few cracks/imperfections and I'll be ready to start on the bodywork.

Also just bought stock exhaust. The micron sounds fantastic but I can't even go over 5k rpm without waking the dead and with the pigs around here wanting to give you a ticket for merely existing on Earth I just don't want to be heard by them from 10 miles away.
