I was left to represent Miatas alone...
...at the autocross outside of Tampa, FL, this weekend. Even though I have a N/A NA, I bested several more powerful cars (actually, they all had more power than me). I was faster than the GTO, both Mini Cooper S's, the Solstace, and at least two of the Vettes. I hope you guys enjoy the pics.
-Waiting to run. The Blue RX7 was mine. I sold it to buy the Miata. http://gallery.floridacorvetteracing...0301.sized.jpg -Extra points if you can tell what this one is: http://gallery.floridacorvetteracing...0277.sized.jpg Ok, here's another look. Clue-It's all wheel drive and twin turbo... http://gallery.floridacorvetteracing...0267.sized.jpg More cars in the paddock. The weather was 77 degrees and sunny. Turnout was light and we all got as many runs as we wanted. http://gallery.floridacorvetteracing...0061.sized.jpg Very fast, long, sweeping course favored the high horsepower cars, but I held my own. I had the opportunity to drive the GTO and bested the owner's time by 3 seconds on my first try. I also drove my buddy's RX7 that used to be mine, and spun it out in a fast, hard braking section. I'm not a fan of his suspension mods. The car unsettles too easily. http://gallery.floridacorvetteracing...0182.sized.jpg http://gallery.floridacorvetteracing...0208.sized.jpg The rest of the pics are at Florida Corvette Racing Photos :: FCRC 11/29/2008 funday Enjoy! Feel free to sign up to join us on Jan 31 for the next event. I'd like to have a boosted Miata show up if anyone's interested. Mine probably won't have boost by then. Sixshooter |

I can't wait to beat up on rich people.

My buddy is a retired Marine and he brought that car back from Okinawa, Japan. He just rebuilt the engine and is limiting the rpms to 8500 for break-in. He is also limiting the boost to 1.4 bar. I admire his restraint. It's a strange ride, though. Boost doesn't come in until 5000 rpm because of the big cams and turbos he's got on it. From 5k up, it's breathtaking.

a 6 cyl that doesnt spool till 5k? HOLY CRAP!! what size turbo's is he running?

R32 with florida plates? Interesting
|
Was this held at the Zephyrhills Airport? It has been a looooooooong time since I have been out there. I remember the course having way too much sand on the surface.
|
Wow...the only miata at an auto-x...wierd.
An auto-x without a miata is like a wedding without the token drunk uncle. |

Yeah, Zhills was a terrible surface. That was old rotten blacktop. I used to go to Porsche and BMW autocrosses out there a long time ago. Hernando County is all concrete and in really good condition. Next event is Jan 31. Info at floridacorvetteracing.com These guys put on really nice, laid back events with as many runs as you can stand. Unlike some others. And the courses are long and fast. Much fun. |

An auto-x without a miata is like a wedding without the token drunk uncle. There is something gratifying about beating $50k 400+hp Corvettes in a $3k Miata with bad paint and 100hp. It ruins everybody's wedding. |

Nice pics sixshooter! If you want pics of a local R32 with a huge turbo I can get them for you. The guy tunes his car at the same shop I take mine.
BTW, you need to get a Roll Bar. |

what is max rpm? He's got the limiter set to 8500 for break-in, moving to ~10k after he gets the dyno time to get a tune on it. He'd just put a new ECU on it when he did the rebuild and only has a basic tune. It runs pretty well for as much time as was spent on the road tuning (about 40 minutes(I was there)). He isn't running the boost controller yet, either. I can hear the wastegates bleeding constantly when he's in boost, so I suppose the crispness of the acceleration will be even more dramatic once the controller is active. Being into musclecars as well, I'm amazed at the revs you can get out of that engine with about a 2.75 inch stroke. My Pontiac has a 4.21 inch stroke and doesn't like the topside of 5K, but makes over 500 ft/lbs at 2250 rpm. I guess that is your trade-off. Frankly, I'd actually rather rev high. It's more fun. |
Nice job! Great quality photos.
Your friend's R32 looks very nice! You gonna start moddin' your car? |

You gonna start moddin' your car? I'm still collecting info and parts. I don't want to buy the wrong parts so I'm taking it slow with that and reading a lot. I also am in the middle of other ongoing projects. Can't do it all at once. |
NO FTD for miata?
