Looks good but something about the front end bothers me. Kind of reminds me the sky

Braineack 12-08-2010 12:45 PM

eh. ugly. everything is ugly. Car designers are too self-serving.

thirdgen 12-08-2010 12:51 PM

Eww. That's so gross. The "If this was the final product, I would preorder one today " tells me that your taste in automotive design blows.

I cant decide which of the two in your link is worse. Both horrible.

Or his taste in anime-looking elf girls.

Seriously, Mazda, is this an ad for a car or a videogame?

But yeah, this design is pretty over-the-top. Looks more like something Lexus would design for product-placement purposes in a Sci-fi film set in "the near future."

miatauser884 12-08-2010 01:16 PM

Of course I was talking about the anime elf girl. What else would it be?

Sorry guys, I know it isn't from the roots of the miata. I like my miata for it's performance, not it's looks. If they honestly plan on returning to the miata roots for performance, then I would greatly appreciate it wrapped up like this.

rleete 12-08-2010 02:11 PM

I like the first one better, but neither is good. Both look like some hotwheels design.

Pen2_the_penguin 12-08-2010 03:00 PM

maybe its just me but the gold one reminds me of the newer BMW Z4 lines... but gayer.

Pen2_the_penguin 12-08-2010 03:12 PM

Here is a less gay illustration.

Back end looks like an SC400/6-Series and the front end looks like all the latest shit from Mazda. I personally liked the looks of the 1st Gen MS3 from the front end... the latest styling with the huge pointy mouth grin is terrible.

Now, if it came with 300whp, I could probably look the other way on styling... but then again, if it's going to cost what the current MX5's do new, I'll just get a couple year-old ZO6.

Gotpsi? 12-26-2010 02:35 PM

I thought it looked ok, have you seen some of the other cars they are coming out with these days?

Import Al 12-26-2010 05:21 PM

"Mazda is developing the next car with a combination of weight and power that will take the MX-5 back to its 1989 origins, roots that second- and third-generation MX-5 chief engineer Takao Kijima says "must always be lightweight sports. The car got bigger and heavier over the last decade, but it's now time to reverse the process and get back to basics, and build a coupe that handles like no other."

If they revived the Miata, I don't care how it looks.

The Mazda2 is 2,300 lbs, seats five, has 4-channel ABS, many airbags etc. Same as my 1999 NB. We know Mazda can do it.

Today's high production sporty cars are fat, but a 2,200 lb, 150 hp roadster would be unique & marketable. 14.67 lbs/hp = quick,
better then the Civic Si. If it's this light with the Sky G engine, Win.

kotomile 12-26-2010 05:23 PM

I was just reading about the next MX-5 in Motor Trend at the office, too...

On paper it looks great. Mazda would design it as a "super-fantastic ultra mid-ship rear wheel magnum" or whatever their stupid term is for putting the engine behind the front axle. Basically they're looking to stiffen the structure and put the weight all in the middle, and decrease weight.

It's kinda like Lotus is trying to be something else, and Mazda (at least with the MX-5) is looking to fill the void.
