Here are some pics I took yesterday between sessions. I won't be making it back today because the weather is crappy and need to get some other stuff done. There were a lot of people with cameras so hopefully more pics show up after today.

lol @ 27. Had to have been a joke. Good to see there are more of the "turbos and aero" crowd this year. It was kinda funny last year, the powers that be didn't really understand the whole going fast thing.

Sparetire 04-11-2010 12:35 PM

^Going fast upsets the balance of the car.

Awesome pics, for some reason I really like the looks of the 9 car.

9671111 04-11-2010 12:39 PM

Those cars are gorgeous.

Carthusiast 04-11-2010 08:50 PM

Mike, got anymore of my spec? Or at least a full size of what you posted?

orion4096 04-11-2010 08:55 PM

They are all at the following link. I have two of your car out on the track... nothing that great, though. BTW, were your driving gloves size 10/medium?

EDIT: Found a third one I forgot to upload.

My favorite  who's car is this??

Sparetire 04-11-2010 09:31 PM

Is that a partially obscured KraftWerks logo on the rear quarter? It looks like 'Miata Challenge' on the windsheild...

That one is mine. 350 whp Rotrex S/C, more fun than can be measured by modern science. Search on m.net for DIY Rotrex for the ugly details (Droid phone link post fail).

Btw, are you turning that Rotrex to its redline now or do you have more blower rpm headroom for extra boost some day?

Youre built thread needs more pictures :bigtu:

So Im gonna ask who's faster, you or thesnowboarder??

wayne_curr 04-12-2010 11:40 AM

Good god the aero scene is getting crazy. Some cars are actually starting to make it look good though, thats for sure.

revlimiter 04-12-2010 11:59 AM

Lots of pix on CR too.

I am probably the slowest guy in group A, i was doing solid 1:44s all day, i think the other guys were under 1:40

shlammed 04-12-2010 12:40 PM

snowboarder, i forget... what hood are you using?
Im not sure about the functionality compared to the rest with no data, but i prefer the looks of it. :)

Still at redline. No reason not to - the faster you turn it, the earlier useful boost shows up. If you want to cap the power a flow restriction of some sort seems to work.

All of my power gains have been flow related - better intake manifold (25whp), 99 head with some porting and +1mm valves (another 25), big, cheap ebay intercooler (another 1.5 psi of essentially free boost and another 25 hp).

The next step is 949's magic header and exhaust. I'm shooting for more power band now...

Tons here. Like 690. Every car, it looks like.

ZX-Tex 04-13-2010 12:05 PM

Those pictures are giving me ideas for how to design/fab the endplates on my splitter. Very cool.

Trackdayhookey your car is tits. Very nice. Is that the Carbontrix 18x10 extractor on your hood? How is it working for you? I just added one to the hood of my NA track car within about an inch or less of where you have yours.

It's the Carbontrix. The cooling is working fine, although I did everything at once so I can't identify if any one change makes the most difference. My guess is that a complete seal around the radiator (so that the only way air that comes in the big oval hole can escape is through the radiator) has the most effect. The pressure on top of the hood near the front is low (based on the testing of others), so venting the engine compartment into that should help too.

levnubhin 04-13-2010 01:33 PM

This thread is full of win!

OK same deal here. I am doing several things at once (splitter, radiator ducting, extractor) so it will be hard for me to tell as well. I suppose I could always tape it off for a session and see how much higher the coolant and oil temps are.

Once again I wish I had a Magnahelic. I need to get one.

Thanks

leatherface24 04-13-2010 02:04 PM

emilios car is going to look even more badass in about two months or less

ZX-Tex 04-13-2010 03:05 PM

Yes Emilio's car is awesome. That splitter and canard setup is very nice work IMO. Plus he has the fastback setup on the hard top.

Me either. It is pretty easy to accidentally make the GoPro HD take a still instead of start the video. So I have a nice still, looking out of the garage at the rain, instead of you and I playing super-soaker.

ZX-Tex 04-13-2010 08:36 PM

What tires were you guys running during the wet sessions?

bellwilliam 04-13-2010 08:39 PM

me on bald NT01, all others were on old r-comp also. I've brought a set of new RA1, but never got to use it. that was the most fun session I've had in last few years. picture was the last session before they shut the track down. river everywhere. slightest throttle kicks the tail out. I can't imagine how Savington or Bundy drove their high torque monsters.

TrackDayHookey 04-13-2010 08:40 PM

NT01, about half worn. In anything other than standing water the grip was pretty good. In standing water, and there was plenty, the grip was zero.

Thanks!

But the video gives a really optimistic view of the car's performance.

Compared to other advanced (i.e. open passing/"race-like" conditions) run groups, the MRLS advanced group was 80% intermediate drivers, many carrying passengers.

There were about 5 quick cars out of the 25 in the group. The others were street cars (some with lots of power but not setup for go-fast), or race/track cars being driven cautiously. So lots of rolling chicanes to encounter.

In a group of similarly fast cars with good drivers, I could only hope for mid-pack times.

Machismo 04-14-2010 10:57 AM

/\ No matter... still one fast buffalo! Props!

Your car only has 230 whp? I thought it was one of the 300+ cars. That explains why I was pulling on it in the B group that one session with my gt2554.

bellwilliam 04-15-2010 10:51 PM

I still have stock 99 engine. 100k miles+, never been opened, on original timing belt, water pump, etc..
we also had 4 different drivers all weekend.

as you can see in video. I had no working gauges of any kind other than EGT (we all know how important that is), no tach, no fuel, no water temp, no oil temp, no speedo, no oil pressure. I was in the middle of switching over to IQ3 dash, and too lazy to wire it. I think I have the least gauges of all 300 Miatas showed up.
