Thumbs up The long awaited GT300 Hood

Ok, I have the first CF hood installed on my 93 Miata. I dropped the car off today to them, and let them do the work. They got it lined up, and took it out for a photo shoot. Some of you may have seen this, some maybe haven't...without further adu...

My headlight lids are in bad need of adjustment (as usual the backs are pointed downward), but the gaps are perfect all the way around. The vents cleared the valve covers with no issue.

I was FLOORED when I saw the hood.

Here's all the variations of the GT300 Hood (NA) and the Scoote Hood (NB). Lots of colored carbons, and Kevlar. While my car was there, they took the opportunity to get a quick photo of it. :

Here's all the hoods together...

Took forever but it was so worth it when I saw my car. I was at work all day today from 9-6 and it was literally the LONGEST day ever. Anthony at Chaser kept sending me pictures and teasing me. That year it took to produce the hoods was worth it today...

I'm so happy, this hood fit perfect and looks top notch!!

When I get my car painted. I'm going to paint the hood, but leave the vent portions in Carbon. Should look really awesome.

*The hood is Carbon Fiber, not unpainted fiberglass...just FYI...

Its going to be really ******* ugly when you do that. Paint it one color, then show off the bottom side when hardparking. Make sure to use real paint, not watercolors. Its your money and your car, ruin at will.

Hustler, dont be be silly, if you cant see the carbon fiber there is no reason to have it, how would anybody know that you have super baller carbon fiber if you paint over it?

Also, unless you paid 1500 bucks for that hood, I can assure you that it is not a true carbon fiber piece, just wrapped in a single layer of carbon fiber.

Looks nice. I would be tempted to just have it clear coated with a few layers of quality UV protective clear.

I need to decide if I am going to get the NB hood. I am sure it will look great, but I really do not NEED it since I am not going to track the NB... much... which is the reason I got in on the group buy in the first place.

Dumb question... What is the deal with the colors? Did they photoshop that in, or are they painting them? I do not remember a paint discussion in that loooooong cr thread.

The NA hood looks a lot better than the NB one. Still not sure if I'm going to get one.

As much as I love this hood, it's distributed by Chaser, a company who screwed many people on their hardtops over at CR. My lexan rear window leaked like crazy from the rain yesterday. I really would like to buy this hood, but I would kick myself giving that company more money.

Love that hood. I'm going to eliminate my headlights on my NA. Wonder if they build one without headlight notchs?

The Scoote hood is for the 99-05, and I saw them do a test fit on the 10AE, so yes, it will definitely fit a 99.

Yeah, fiberglass hood, with a pretty layer...I know.

They JUST got them in on monday, and hadn't officialy released it until they were able to do the test fit yesterday. I would think they'd have them on the site by today. If not, you could always just call them.

The colors, they are different carbons. There's a blue carbon, green carbon, Kevlar, silver carbon, and on the right, you'll see a red carbon (looks purplish in the pic). They just did different colors for those that want to show off carbon, but have it close to paint matching.

Not unless you put out serious money. You're basically talking about a one off hood. I'd think you'd have to pay mold costs etc. You could buy their carbon headlight lids, and then bond them in...

Hustler's talking about an NA with a 99 head swap. Most extraction hoods made for NAs have clearance issues with the 99 intake manifold.

I like shopping at Walmart.

walmart is awesome.

when i go to walmart, they sell me stuff for cheap.

the best part about walmart is when you can return stuff, from walmart, that you just picked up off the shelf.

at walmart, they have such a lack return policy, at walmart, that you can return stuff you didnt buy!

lolz at walmart.

As far as I understand, and I'll say it again over here (as originally discussed on CR)...they bent over backwards to take care of you, AND they took a $1300 nose dive for you because they lost the claim on the hardtop UPS damaged and got a big fat $0 because you signed for the top as being in good condition without first inspecting it. Again, they LOST $1300 for you. I'll say it again, they Lost $1300 for you. In that, I wouldn't hesitate to funnel money back in; especially if I was you.

Ooooh, I see. That I can't say. From what I see, the vents are actually higher than the skeleton of the hood. If I had to guess just comparing the two hoods, I'd say you gain 1/2" with this hood. The vents don't drop downwards/ sit lower. Don't take my word for it...I don't have the means to compare and measure. I'm just guessing.

Russ, seriously? They bent over backwards for me? I wanted a green top. The one they shipped me was destroyed. I drove 300 miles to return it. I ended up with a god damn kevlar top because they told me their ******* installer was on vacation and the only one with a window was that kevlar top. That's not bending over backwards. I now have a $1,500 hardtop in a color that I honestly can't ******* stand. All because I didn't want to keep the green one that had stress cracks all over the ******* place.

No, **** Chaser.

^^ Maybe your dumb *** should have called and verified they had one that you wanted for trade and not driven up there without first consulting them.
