The long awaited GT300 Hood

6 Attachment(s)
Ok, I have the first CF hood installed on my 93 Miata. I dropped the car off today to them, and let them do the work. They got it lined up, and took it out for a photo shoot. Some of you may have seen this, some maybe haven't...without further adu...

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1279332537

My headlight lids are in bad need of adjustment (as usual the backs are pointed downward), but the gaps are perfect all the way around. The vents cleared the valve covers with no issue.

I was FLOORED when I saw the hood.

Here's all the variations of the GT300 Hood (NA) and the Scoote Hood (NB). Lots of colored carbons, and Kevlar. While my car was there, they took the opportunity to get a quick photo of it. :

Here's all the hoods together...

Took forever but it was so worth it when I saw my car. I was at work all day today from 9-6 and it was literally the LONGEST day ever. Anthony at Chaser kept sending me pictures and teasing me. That year it took to produce the hoods was worth it today...

I'm so happy, this hood fit perfect and looks top notch!!

hustler 07-15-2010 10:20 PM

When will you paint it?

Falcons365 07-15-2010 10:22 PM

When I get my car painted. I'm going to paint the hood, but leave the vent portions in Carbon. Should look really awesome.

*The hood is Carbon Fiber, not unpainted fiberglass...just FYI...

hustler 07-15-2010 10:23 PM

will the vents clear a 99 intake plenum?

Its going to be really fucking ugly when you do that. Paint it one color, then show off the bottom side when hardparking. Make sure to use real paint, not watercolors. Its your money and your car, ruin at will.

Hustler, dont be be silly, if you cant see the carbon fiber there is no reason to have it, how would anybody know that you have super baller carbon fiber if you paint over it?

Also, unless you paid 1500 bucks for that hood, I can assure you that it is not a true carbon fiber piece, just wrapped in a single layer of carbon fiber.

jeff_man 07-15-2010 10:40 PM

i don't see them on there site, where did you find them?

ZX-Tex 07-15-2010 10:44 PM

Looks nice. I would be tempted to just have it clear coated with a few layers of quality UV protective clear.

I need to decide if I am going to get the NB hood. I am sure it will look great, but I really do not NEED it since I am not going to track the NB... much... which is the reason I got in on the group buy in the first place.

Dumb question... What is the deal with the colors? Did they photoshop that in, or are they painting them? I do not remember a paint discussion in that loooooong cr thread.

dgmorr 07-15-2010 10:47 PM

The NA hood looks a lot better than the NB one. Still not sure if I'm going to get one.

SlideRuler 07-15-2010 10:51 PM

As much as I love this hood, it's distributed by Chaser, a company who screwed many people on their hardtops over at CR. My lexan rear window leaked like crazy from the rain yesterday. I really would like to buy this hood, but I would kick myself giving that company more money.

ModZZilla 07-15-2010 11:09 PM

Love that hood. I'm going to eliminate my headlights on my NA. Wonder if they build one without headlight notchs?

The Scoote hood is for the 99-05, and I saw them do a test fit on the 10AE, so yes, it will definitely fit a 99.

Yeah, fiberglass hood, with a pretty layer...I know.

They JUST got them in on monday, and hadn't officialy released it until they were able to do the test fit yesterday. I would think they'd have them on the site by today. If not, you could always just call them.

The colors, they are different carbons. There's a blue carbon, green carbon, Kevlar, silver carbon, and on the right, you'll see a red carbon (looks purplish in the pic). They just did different colors for those that want to show off carbon, but have it close to paint matching.

Not unless you put out serious money. You're basically talking about a one off hood. I'd think you'd have to pay mold costs etc. You could buy their carbon headlight lids, and then bond them in...

Hustler's talking about an NA with a 99 head swap. Most extraction hoods made for NAs have clearance issues with the 99 intake manifold.

Braineack 07-16-2010 08:51 AM

I like shopping at Walmart.

walmart is awesome.

when i go to walmart, they sell me stuff for cheap.

the best part about walmart is when you can return stuff, from walmart, that you just picked up off the shelf.

at walmart, they have such a lack return policy, at walmart, that you can return stuff you didnt buy!

lolz at walmart.

As far as I understand, and I'll say it again over here (as originally discussed on CR)...they bent over backwards to take care of you, AND they took a $1300 nose dive for you because they lost the claim on the hardtop UPS damaged and got a big fat $0 because you signed for the top as being in good condition without first inspecting it. Again, they LOST $1300 for you. I'll say it again, they Lost $1300 for you. In that, I wouldn't hesitate to funnel money back in; especially if I was you.

Ooooh, I see. That I can't say. From what I see, the vents are actually higher than the skeleton of the hood. If I had to guess just comparing the two hoods, I'd say you gain 1/2" with this hood. The vents don't drop downwards/ sit lower. Don't take my word for it...I don't have the means to compare and measure. I'm just guessing.

Ah yes, the worst kind.

SlideRuler 07-16-2010 11:34 AM

Russ, seriously? They bent over backwards for me? I wanted a green top. The one they shipped me was destroyed. I drove 300 miles to return it. I ended up with a god damn kevlar top because they told me their fucking installer was on vacation and the only one with a window was that kevlar top. That's not bending over backwards. I now have a $1,500 hardtop in a color that I honestly can't fucking stand. All because I didn't want to keep the green one that had stress cracks all over the fucking place.

No, fuck Chaser.

Hmm... interesting. Thanks.

^^ Maybe your dumb ass should have called and verified they had one that you wanted for trade and not driven up there without first consulting them.

you don't understand. They told me on the phone they had another green one laying around, as well as a regular CF one. So I said okay I'm coming down. Then when I get there, they feed me some bullshit about them not having a window on it and their installer was GONE. They are a shady-ass company running out of a little warehouse and I don't like them.

Oh also the side seals are not OEM and are a pain in the ass to get to seal right. My seats and gutted floor were soaked the first few times it rained until I ghetto fabbed enough 3M tape to wedge in there.

$1,500 for a half-assed product and being deceived. No, that's not acceptable.

I'm only sharing my experience with the company for your sake. If you order the hood and it's got defects or doesn't fit right at all, don't say I didn't warn you.

Falcons365 07-16-2010 11:49 AM

If you didn't like it, why'd you accept it and take it?

..and the seal issue has long since been resolved. Your windows need adjusting. I posted that, but you were banned from CR. The seals were perfect (even had more coverage than OEM).

hustler 07-16-2010 12:09 PM

I'm so tired of hearing complain about bullshit arguments from vendors and poor follow through on their side. If you have a problem, take care of it and shut up. Be a man.

I think it's a pretty ugly hood...Actually if I had a track car i'd probably rock it. Way too busy for my taste and the idea of watter logging the engine isn't really to appealing. I like the idea of just having the two front vents though, I think it would really clean it up. Oh well, must be a CR, hard parker thing.

Whats the going price for a RHarris hood? I think Hustler's is nice enough to make boners with. That and the FM hood are just so clean.

False. I won't go into my reasoning for leaving...it went more smoothly because the hoods finally arrived. I don't drive boats or make parts. Point is, they are here, they look great and fit great.

Slideruler's situation was after I left...UPS damaged the top, not Chaser. That fiasco is thanks to package handlers that don't care.

Hood comes with rain guards...install covers for daily, take em off for track use.

Sir, i am not even talking about the hoods. I am talking about the hardtops. When you were around, we were getting bullshitted about when we would get them for.........in my case 7 months after i had paid. And when you left, we all pretty much got them lickety split.

When I spoke to your replacement, Anthony, aka Russ 2: electric boogaloo, He told me he didnt know what the hell you were doing. He didnt know who the hell I was, what my address was, or even what top I ordered. I think I even had to tell you like 3 times what I ordered. and after i cleared that up with him, it showed up at my house in a week.

Im not even talking about who is responsible for the damaged top. he took the kevlar one. he settled. done.

Frankly, Im just disgusted that you could be so incompetent with other peoples money and then get on here and be a smug little asshole to someone who had a bad experience with your previous employer.

Falcons365 07-16-2010 01:29 PM

As you weren't there, nor did you sit in my seat, you don't know what happened on my end, and what I had to go through. I'm not going to post anything publicly as I do not work there any more, I don't have to defend the business aspects. After I left, other people came in and there was a reorganization; which was badly needed.

I am now just a customer. I love the hood, and that is the point of this thread.

Animus21 07-16-2010 01:35 PM

Fair enough. I dont know what happened. I wasnt there. Im sure it was the holocaust. Just govern yourself about how you treat people who took the bait when you cast the lure. You do that, and we will be just fine.

Falcons365 07-16-2010 01:38 PM

Sent you PM! ;-)
