Was browsing a NY automotive forum and found a thread started about a Matte Black Elise. Well it turned into Matte black anything and someone posted about this car, I thought it needed to be shared so here ya go.

matte black is the new paris hilton. ie whored out to everyone.

and other matte colors are ok, but that one just looks like it needs a rub out and polishing.

I thought I liked at first, but for some reason it seems to throw off the normally pleasing proportions of the subie.

I hate the matte finish paint.

hustler 03-05-2009 03:15 PM

I'm painting my ugly miata this blue color with black 99 wheels now that I have a hard-top. Don't hate.

Satin finishes are much more attractive. Its about tastefull restraint with the flattener.

Gloss-less colors work well on the older cars

Early 60's Chevy

64' Ford

And a 59' buick for good measure

Don't care for it so much on brand new cars.

How does this matte paint stand up to dirt and particulates stuck to the surface? I'd imagine it would be harder to clean considering the microscopic finish has to be rough and almost porous in order to scatter the light more.

I thought about doing it to my car in the stock hue, but funds didn't allow, and the car really isn't old enough for me to just throw paint on it.

Here is a buddy's car though.

I dunno. I like it sometimes, but other times not so much. I just know I couldnt own a car with matte finish. Im too ---- about smudges and imperfections in the finish. Ive never seen a matte finish that was all in all perfectly even. All of the slightly glossy or slightly more matte areas would completely freak me out.

hustler 03-06-2009 08:49 AM

I'm going to do the satin finish on my ugly car because I'm painting it in the garage and would probably fuck it bad enough to be embarrassed if it were glossy.

y8s 03-06-2009 09:48 AM

quick, get some paint on that primer before it gets all shitty!!

ApexOnYou 03-06-2009 11:51 AM

That RX8 is one of the sexiest track cars I have seen in a long time. I usually don't like flat paint, but damn that pulls it off..

miatamania 03-06-2009 07:55 PM

I <3 that RX8

kotomile 03-06-2009 08:46 PM

RX8 works, the Ferrari doesn't somehow IMO. And I usually like flat painted high-end cars.
