Mazdaspeed mx5 with water meth kit 0-120

My mazdaspeed mx5 with a Devils Own water/meth injection kit, a Flyin Miata intake with manual boost controller set at around 14 lbs boost, & a Flyin Miata downpipe.

Launched at about 2500 rpms in 1st gear & went to 120 mph in 6th gear with 225lbs camera man passenger.

Launched at about 3000 rpms in 1st gear & went to 110 in 5th gear with 225lbs camera man passenger.

That will get it warmed up quick.

I compaired mine and your video, seems were the same acceleration wise to about 90, then I start slowing down. aerodynamics maybe? Or possibly my stock crap cooling system getting hot causeing a reduction in timing. Cool video!

so how are you getting around the 11psi fuel cut? The exhaust sounds loud for having just a FM dp and stock exhaust.....

I have the boost cut resistor modification to bypass the boost cut but I think my boost sensor went bad because I took the boost cut resistor mod off the boost sensor & still do not get the boost cut anymore.

As far as the exhaust goes I disconnected the muffler from the mid pipe & put in a temporary turn down pipe for the fun of it. I also removed the large rubber boot that covers the shift lever hole so noise comes up from the engine through the hole more. I bought a test pipe a while back for my 93 miata that fits where the cat converter is but i modified it to fit where the muffler connects to the midpipe on my mazdaspeed mx5 & every once in a while I put it on my mazdaspeed mx5. It is loud.

I also have the throttle position sensor disconnected.

so how does disconnecting the TPS benefit you?

The stock ECU causes the engine to run lean until the computer goes into open loop mode around 5000 rpm's . Disconnecting the TPS makes the engine run rich & gets rid of the lean spot.

I have a devils own watermeth kit, went to HS with the owner. Great company and product

What gears are in that thing? I used to top out 3rd around 80 in my old 90 with 96 Torsen and 225/50 15's.

2nd gear 47mph

Tell me more about the TPS disconnect, and how runinng 14psi on that setup is safe. If it's an alright thing to do for the long-run, I may consider it.

Fix your WOT hesitation (TPS signal limit)

MSMjohn 02-03-2009 11:38 PM

I have no detonation at 14 psi with water meth .

Here are some videos of my car at 15 psi tps disconnected

60mph to 130mph at 15 psi water meth

30mph to 110 at 15psi water meth tps disconnected (watch in high quality HQ)

Is your temperature gauge broken or something? Or do you always beat on the car when it's cold?

Mazdaspeeder 02-03-2009 11:54 PM

For some reason that doesn't seem like a safe idea, as far as the TPS goes.

I did a stock temperature gauge linearization modification.

So you do beat on it when it's cold? I don't see why. That's a good way to seize a piston and cause excess wear.

18psi 02-04-2009 12:30 AM

I think he's trying to say by posting that linearization link that it was not cold. dunno

my temp mod is slightly different in linerization from the one in the picture above. All these video's were taken after driving on the highway many miles pulling over for for a minute then taking off or driving on the highway many miles slowing down then taking off. The car is up to opperating temp in all the video's.

Pretty quick car and sounds mean.
