A huge group of cars got together to race last night with a lot of cars from out of town. For the most part it was a huge clusterfuck, but I ended up getting in a couple runs with some Tampa guys.
The first with a "low 12 second" Integra.
The Integra guy then tells me I should run his friend's Focus and it should be a good race. The focus is on 245 NT555R's and refuses to race from less than a 40 roll; which started to tip me off as to what was about to happen. He tells me he's making 400hp, I heard people later saying 600hp, which seems more reasonable considering the pounding I took.
He told me later it was boost by gear, which explains why 2nd was reasonable and 3rd was pretty traumatic. Also note the 3 second granny shift from 2-3, I feel like he knew what was coming. :-------:
I'm determined to find that car online and figure out what's done to it. Not sure I've ever gotten wailed on so hard.

I'd be accepting of that loss. That focus sounded stout and pdexta's car is no slouch.
A friend of mine dyno'd 520whp with his K24 hatch a month ago. He asked to race me from a 70 roll
I got pulled on by a Cobalt SS turbo Friday night. It wasn't the fact that it was faster than me, but more or less the fact that it was completely dead quiet. I had the top down too...couldn't even hear spool. I'm going to guess it was making 320-350hp.
They are monsters in 3rd gear! All stock parts with a tune your talking about close to 300whp and 350tq.
Nope the Miata lost.
Again, nope, the focus won.
This is why 350hp sucks. And why the BP motor sucks. When you lose to a ford focus. And various other cars.
No, 350hp in a miata does not automatically make you faster than everything else on the road. You are still slower than many many many lightly modified cars out there :(

What you guys need to do is quit complaining about the dinosaur BP and get the MZR in there at 2.5L. Same engine as the Focus except it has VVT. Keep banging your head against a wall and expect a different result, aint gonna happen.
And before you flame away and tell me to do it so I can show you how its done, dont bother. Im 40, married w/child, grew up a long time ago, and have no need for a 600hp Miata. Now a 600hp CTSV (four door of course) I wont say no to. But since I get my kicks autocrossing, the Cadi is useless but a 350whp Miata would be just about right for SSM. Hence me being here. And I have spent more than a few hours contemplating the MZR in my NA. It is better at everything and has the intake on the drivers side which puts the turbo on the pass side for better cross weights. Dreaming away as the budget wont permit it.

cool story bro.
"What you should do is build a twin turbo Gallardo...I haven't done it because I have no need for one, but you guys totally should"

On a realistic note: I truly believe that anyone looking for more than 400whp and dominate straight line racing shouldn't be driving a miata anyways. Severely traction limited, severely gearing limited, and severely aero limited. By that point you could have a bolt on c5 z06 or cobra that would laugh at a turbo miata.

Yeah, exactly, we were talking about Lambo's and Ferraris. At least try to keep the argument in the same context. Have you even bothered to look at the MZR as a possible candidate? Then go tell me to jerk it, "bro".
You can go jerk it, BRO.
Then go ask turns101 about how much time/fabrication/and money his MZR setup cost him.
Then come back here and talk. Buying the engine itself is not even 30% of the way done.

Yeah, I think I mentioned that in my first post. The part about the budget. Now how does that take away from the engine being lighter, better breathing, available in up to 2.5L from factory, and it allows for better balance. And if you really have nothing better to do with your money or life, go Cosworth and make over 1000hp.
So, is turns101 happy with the result?
Seing that this whole thing started with a Focus beating up on a NB, I thought the MZR point would make sense but I guess not. Let me guess, go jerk it?
