More ABSURDflow standard location track setups w/pics

My last two orders were coincidentally the same basic things except wastegate color/springs and # of O2 bungs. GT3071r, .64A/R. I had to take pics of them together at the expense of making my customers wait. These also show my newer, simplier, more user friendly EWG dump blend pipe and resulting lack of joint on the 3" pipe, saving ching-dow.

Going to people on this forum?

Sick! You do amazing work.

thirdgen 03-01-2011 11:18 PM

I speechless

baron340 03-01-2011 11:28 PM

One day, if I ever get a real job beyond this whole broke ass college student thing, one of these beautiful works of art will be strapped to my motor.

Ninja edit: My photographer of a wife declares that those pictures make it look like miniatures, and now I want to know how you did that.

aznDragonX 03-01-2011 11:31 PM

Tim, you are the god of fabrication!! It's time worth waiting for your masterpiece.
P.S.. black wastegate look a lot better!! :P

Gryff 03-01-2011 11:34 PM

^^ Tilt shift effect maybe?

back OT, I would love to have one of these manifolds as well one day! I'm looking forward to that day, lol

That looks dirty.

Those look awesome; I still attrack a crowd at the track when my hood is up. Is this the 3rd generation set-up now? I think it's still pretty insane that between Andrew, Nick, and me, we haven't broken or cracked anything in what 2.5-years?

I already coined this; those water cooled wastegates probably won't discolor.

It's not that expensive when you consider the going rate for cast manifolds and DP's from the competitors. I went down this road, called in desperation, realized it wasn't that expensive in the long-run, and I'm the happiest of customers over the last 3-years.

Stop slacking Tim and get to work on my RamHorn setup so you can make this thread even more NSFW.

:dunno: I pressed the button on the camera & resized them with windows resizer. My wife's 5D, 24-105 f/4L IS. I use aperture priority @ 4 and let the camera do the rest of the work. Some of the pics I'm standing on my step ladder so the shadow from my body wouldn't be as obvious.

I don't quite understand the tilt shift idea, and I definitely don't know photoshop or other softwares enough to do it with software. All I know in photoshop is how to resize a picture and add text to it. Kinda silly.

These look AWESOME Tim! What's the idea behind the diamond-shaped plates?

miatauser884 03-02-2011 08:38 AM

So how much does a setup like that run us?

Why don't people get this? It's gusseting for the welds.

hustler 03-02-2011 08:58 AM

I wonder if a flex section in my DP dump would make the WG stop whistling? right now it goes "woo woo", like an alarm clock.

Nice, glad you represent AF well! I need you to email me pics so I can update my "testimonials" section. Yeah, this I guess is the third revision and the only one that broke is Sav's after like 1 track day...EWG VTA unsupported didn't work too good!

Like hustler said its for extra support. Can't hurt.

somewhere around $2800-2900 shipped depending on the turbo.

cause it's weird.

Yours shouldn't whistle at all, you have no flexes. I was told the woo wooo was from the liner on the flexes. I use smooth-liner flexes so they don't go woo whooo. Which BTW are also on national backorder like the tial housings. FTL.

I know, it's strange and I can't fix, nor do I care to. When the gate opens it whistles, confirmed my lil Sis. I've tried to adjust a few things, but again, "give-a-shit" is low.

Like an alarm clock or like a muffler tip?

If you could make that setup spool both turbos without the motor, you'd win a nobel prize.

y8s 03-02-2011 11:50 AM

Moar: Tim, would it be TOO bling to replace the diamond shaped gussets with cut out letters that spell out "F L O W"?

warning: Baller status approaching

TurboTim 03-02-2011 12:42 PM

haha. I will do that for your manifold Matt. On my to-do list is get a quote for a tag to weld onto the pipes like every other major manufacturer but I spend my lunches either drilling inconel or burning calories in the gym. I could use the 'drop out' letters from the tag! haha. Then again why add cost. I do have that laser engraver at my disposal. Able to engrave around pipe too...but so what.

Super baller would be one single continuous mandrel bent pipe.

Gryff 03-02-2011 01:42 PM

Tim, Ive been looking at your setups for awhile now and was wondering. What turbos can the tial housing connect up to? I know it will be awhile before i can even really think about having one of your setups, but I still want to entertain my mind with ideas of what I would run.

TurboTim 03-02-2011 02:08 PM

Smallest cold side is the GT2860RS. Largest is...well huge I'm sure. Tial does not have a turbine housing for GT25XX turbos and smaller. However ATP will machine a vband inlet into a garrett castiron GT25XX turbine but you'll still stuck with the bolted downpipe flange.

I've seen bolt on downpipe flange to vband adapters. I think I saw it on godspeed or cxracings site.

I fear another marketing manager is being born.

Faeflora 03-02-2011 03:27 PM

I wonder who these happy new owners are? I am very glad to see more 300+ miatas are being built!

Fwiw if they are reading we should eventually compare spool data- I am running a log with 3071 and .86 AR. I'd expect you to hit 15psi at 3300RPM since I do at 38/39. Sounds like low rpm but maybe its possible with da flow..

aznDragonX 03-02-2011 04:31 PM

Compare spool data would be cool. Now, I just have to get my engine back from my engine builder. I wonder the same for the 2nd AF setup since black one belongs to me.

mann 03-02-2011 05:17 PM

frank lloyd wright with a welder....love it. The engineering in this thing is clear--between the EWG reinforcements and the flex coupling that thing is going to stay solid for a long long time.

I'm afraid to ask how many hours are in each one.

I've used ATP adapters, same stuff. That's one way around having to always remove those 5 downpipe bolts. There's room for it on this manifold; I'd rock it if I were tracking the car with this setup in T2/IWG flavor or having the need to remove the downpipe all the time.

$95?! That doesn't even include the hardware or vband clamp and the other side of the flange. I'm sure the ebay ones are far cheaper and probably would last fine. But unknown vband flange size on ebay versions?? :dunno:

I'll guess about 20 hours.

turbo & MVS, $3k insured ground shipping, yeah. These with 3071's are 2900-ish, 2871's were 100 less. I got a sninkin hunch that tial raised the prices $40 since these were bought. Plus little nickel n dime stuff, like extra O2 bungs and drilled bolts, that stuff adds up too. The black one there (aznDragon's) is getting one of the vibrant Evac's added now ($60), etc.

Every time I see pics of your work I'm more impressed than the last. Beautiful! And these pics are great, especially the flange-to-flange shots...looks like an HR Giger drawing has come to life.

Damn, I drool over the standard low-mount setup as is.

The v-band setups are but a dream. A dream that I'll end up with after 2 track days on a standard bolted manifold lol.

TurboTim 03-09-2011 12:30 PM

Go with trackspeed inconel hardware.

i would highly reccomend a real turbo manifold with a half inch thick mild steel flange. resurface both the turbo housing and the turbo manifold and you will never need a gasket again.

couple that with high grade hardware and you will never have a leak.

Jason and Mike's setups?

Always lookin good, Its always tough getting back on the forums. Makes me miss driving my car so much.

One day....I'll have one of these setups.

The black EWG is Jason's, which now has a bung for vibrants EVac installed last minute. Mike got his setup last June and is of the RevB dump design, like yours but with a flex, and the 3" pipe has a vband instead of that PITA double slip, and he has 4 EGT probes. I don't know if I have a pic of his setup as shipped.

Thanks for the compliment Nick!
