My first autocross event ever... video footage

air temp was about 55, autocross was put on but clemsonscc.org. The cars in the video; gto, my turbo miata, and an H22'd turbo accord with a huge turbo. I'm sure there will be a ton of criticism on my driving, first of all I know I drove horrible... I left myself a lot of room for improvement. Secondly, I had to turn my boost down to wastegate in order to somewhat keep traction, I also forgot I have adjustable coilovers which were set to the the highest stiffness level.

Skip to a minute to see me driving

enjoy

I got a DNF for this run since I locked up and missed that gate, my only DNF of the day and he picks this one. Go figure.

lol, does look a little cock-eyed. Probably from those insane g forces I was enduring.

Braineack 12-03-2012 10:47 AM

negative, your tires didnt seem to allow insane g's.

Jdilla 12-03-2012 10:51 AM

Ha ha... you noticed that. What tire might you recommend? I want something stickier than I already have but at the same time I don't want to burn through them super fast.

Braineack 12-03-2012 10:54 AM

What are you currently running?

Jdilla 12-03-2012 11:20 AM

The tires are falken fk452, I think the size is 215/40ZR16 86Y.

Braineack 12-03-2012 11:25 AM

needs more 215/45/16 Khumo XS. and probably a better alignment/tweaks, your car seems to want to plow.

Leafy 12-03-2012 11:26 AM

Something in the 140-200 TW range in a 15" wheel diameter. Should still be able to get 20k miles out of them if you dont drive like a moron constantly.

tpwalsh 12-03-2012 11:37 AM

If you have 15'" wheels then your best bet is the 195 r1r(not the 205).otherwise look at the Bridgestone star specs and hankook rs3. All three are top tier street tire class models. For the ultimate grip go Hoosier a6. Not cheap, not street able, but very very sticky without the warmup issues of other race tires

:jerkit:

195 might be best if you're on stock HP in STS class

Yup, we all suck to varying degrees. The only way to not suck is to have the name Mark Daddio, you almost don't suck if people refer to you as an alien.

But the 195 is the only one you can shave into almost a slick...

People have claimed the 195 R1R is some mythical rubber formulated in the River Sytx while a Gryphon birthed a newborn.

Thanks for the help guys!!! In this video I forgot I had adjustable coilovers, once I got underneath the car and looked at the rear dial it was set to 8. Then proceeded to immediately turn both of them down to 5 and shaved 3 seconds off my previous runs (was able to apply a wee bit more gas without breaking down into a drift). I went down one more notch to 4, seems to be the perfect balance between roll and traction.

I'll check into these "215/45/16 Khumo XS"

Autocross isn't racing.
