NA/NC hybrid bumper installed!

I've been waiting to get this installed before I start my winter build. It's made by autokonexion. It has a flat bottom for some diffuser action and the fog holes will become brake ducts when I put it back together. Here are my end of the year shots:

I like it, mostly because of how it drops straight down from the midline instead of cutting back under like stock. Reminds me of the way Mk1 Rabbits look with those old skool air dams from the 80's.

cjsafski 12-31-2010 02:36 PM

Looks good! How sturdy does it seem? I scrape my front lip pretty often. Also at the local track they set up tire slaloms which my car occasionally tries to make friends with. I doubt it would hold up to that, but I am still curious of its strength.

astroboy 12-31-2010 02:39 PM

Don't think it would take to the tires well at all but I don't think it would be so bad scraping it on the ground. Still I would avoid doing it though.

This is jut what I've been waiting for. I wanted to see it on a car... painted, before I went ahead with a purchase. I like it forthe reasons you stated above. Flat bottom making splitter design easier and the holes will be perfect for brake ducts.

There is a lot of room for brake ducts in the mouth also. I have an ott setup so no intercooler piping in the way. I may do that and get some super bright fog's in there.

looks good

I absolutely love the way this looks when it comes time for me to get a new bumper witch will be not so far away I am doing this. I may even try and make my own to save some money.

when you first told me about this I thought u were NUTS and that it was gunna be beyond GHEY , even for CR.net peeps... but this looks really good. I'll have to see it in person soon.

johnwag 01-30-2011 12:37 AM

it looks really good, but all of the openings has me wondering if you're car is gonna overheat now.

I should have it back together in april unless you want to come look at it in pieces.

I am going to do some ducting for the ic/radiator and the sides of that ducting will be ducted to the brakes. The openings on the side are going to be fogs/driving lights. That should ensure air goes to the proper places and keeps all associated things cool.

Vashthestampede 01-30-2011 10:48 AM

Looks good man! Definitely different.

I'd sure like to check this thing out in person, as well as all the other CT miatas running around.

Hopefully this year I can actually take a minute to get mine back on the road and come to a meet.

icantthink4155 01-30-2011 10:40 PM

I was excited about the shops, but I think the real version makes the Miata look like it has a double chin and a fat neck.

astroboy 01-31-2011 06:55 AM

Mine is going to have about 1" cut out of it in the middle before I put it back on the car. I loose too much ground clearance but I still like it nevertheless.

miatamike203 01-31-2011 08:30 AM

i want to come up and see that bumper might get one for my car.

Braineack 01-31-2011 08:49 AM

Can I see an image without all the post processing fake contract and HDR bullshit? I'd like to be able to acutally see how it looks please.

Thanks!

On first glance it looks like this front end will cause a lot of odd things as far as airflow is concerned: It looks like there is no undertray under those new front inlets - Those inlets need to be ducted into the radiator and the main mouth needs to be reduced in size. Right now the pressure differentials in front and behind the radiator are probably more equalized now, meaning less flow through the rad. It also looks like those inlets will cause unusual handling characteristics, limiting the front down force and upsetting the already subpar aero we have. Lastly, it looks like it simply sits way too low.

You should also work on leveling out your IC.

Sure thing man. PM me when you want to make an almost 2 hour drive.

Those pics are hdr free. What is this "it" that you are seeking to see non-processed? The paint? That is the only thing effected by my slight adjustments to the color, saturation, contrast, dodging, and burning. The form of the bumper is exactly what you see in the photos I posted.

astroboy 01-31-2011 09:10 AM

Damn you and your first glance editing! The bumper was only mounted for photographic purposes. The car is now torn down but when I put it back together the lower part will either be cut off or blocked off. The intercooler may or may not be leveled and might be painted with black heat transfer paint or leveled out. Ducting, an undertray, an a front diffuser will be added for aero and cooling purposes.

A real image like this:

sure those pictures of your car look good, but they are so overly processed and saturated, I cant see shit. i wanna see the goods for what they are, not how well you can manipulate lightroom.

astroboy 01-31-2011 09:24 AM

Well for you I'll make one with an adjusted histogram to give you a better feel for the shape of the bumper. The paint on the car is naturally dark, it is often mistaken for black when it is not in direct sunlight.

This is the only totally unprocessed shot I have of it (with lots of dust):
