Preparing for my road trip.

I'll be driving out to Arizona this Tuesday (~12 hours). Then flying home with my brother to Chicago. I get back around New Years and will drive back home. Still not sure if I'll be taking the miata up to Washington state early next month. Weather is the only thing holding me back. That would be a 27 hour one way drive. Split up obviously.

This is arctcts old miata that I bought off him after the accident. I swapped over my subframe and a few bits and pieces that I had that I could use. Right now it's sporting the FM kit with the 2560R. Engine is bone stock. Running 12psi.

The car visually looks like shit because I have a few red pieces on it. The door and fender needed to be replaced so I swapped over mine and now those are the only red parts on a black car. Looks ghetto.

Anyways I'll be doing a few things to either make the trip more reliable or enjoying.

The car is loud and the speakers are shot. Also the stock radio was replaced with a shitty tape deck kenwood at some point.

So I started with that. I wanted some USB connectivity that would allow me to charge/play the iPod while driving. I went with another kenwood. I really wanted a headunit that was not flashy. Something that looked as stock as possible.

I didn't want to go crazy with money so I just put in some decent polkaudio speakers. The mounting would definitely require modifications. Instead of cutting the metal on the door I decided to mount them to the door card. It actually worked out really good. They do not rattle at all and I used the adapter plate as sort of a sandwich on the card and it's very secure.

Today I'll be working on the following...

Rattles.
Seat rubbing making a squeak noise.
Oil temp sensor.
Oil change.
Check on oil leak I attempted to fix yesterday.
New speedo cable.

And finally an alignment on Monday.

I really wanted to drop in the 3.909 RX7 diff but just don't have enough time.

You're lucky you have power windows. You wouldn't be able to roll manual windows down with those speakers. You might think about a pair of ear plugs.

+1 even after a drive of only a few hours my ears are ringing from wind noise. If you have cruise control you should make sure its working 100%. Longer drives kill my ankle.
