Pictures of my on going build...400+ whp inside!

Well, im in the process of building a 450+ whp 1.6L and it's in the shop currently but anywho...here is a picture I snapped today of it, obviously very dirty and not done. http://i53.tinypic.com/2a0gq69.jpg

Cspence 09-01-2010 09:55 PM

Been waiting for this!

Faeflora 09-01-2010 10:03 PM

How happy are you with your ARTech manifold? Did you get a downpipe from him too?

Also, what fitting did you use to connect your AFPR to your factory hard line? Look sphethcial.

jtothawhat 09-01-2010 10:15 PM

I'm very happy with the ARTech manifold, yes I did receive a downpipes from him too. They're just hardline adapters, I am getting rid of them though because i'm going full AN fuel lines.

Cspence 09-01-2010 10:24 PM

So when is this thing going to run? Looking forward to this....

jtothawhat 09-01-2010 10:27 PM

Hopefully within the next two weeks, and I cannot wait to hear her run either...the cams sound really nice.

Looks great dude. I cannot wait to see some numbers.

1.6 FOR LIFE!!!!!!

gospeed81 09-01-2010 11:41 PM

awesome...in for dyno results and driving impressions

Faeflora 09-02-2010 12:09 AM

I forgot to ask-

Why is there a plunger inside your engine?

Full_Tilt_Boogie 09-02-2010 12:12 AM

If you posted this on M.net everyone would shit themselves.

"ZOMG THAT TURBO IS SO BIG IT WILL LAG FOREVER!!!1!12@ MEANWHILE I WOULD HAVE INSTANTLY ACCELERATED AWAY WITH MY JRSC BECAUSE IT MAKES SOOOO MUCH TOOOORQUE"

jtothawhat 09-02-2010 12:33 AM

I have a 'plunger' holding up my hood because I don't have a hood prop, actually it's a stick of some sort.

My last turbo was a 60-1 non-BB, this turbo is actually smaller--is DBB, Billet wheel, so M.net can go to hell lol

How'd you decide to go with that turbo? Which A/R did you get? I can't see shit on the PT website. I'm considering going for a gt3582 and a flipside mani/dp down the road.

What is the functional difference between a billet wheel and a regular wheel?

jtothawhat 09-02-2010 01:41 AM

I needed a turbo to fit my horsepower goals, the GT30R is a good sized turbo for my horsepower goals but then I ran across the 5857 which is similar size but will flow 600 hp. So I opted for the turbo that will spool faster, and give me more horsepower potentiality to play with. I went with the .63 A/R

Billet wheels are lighter, more aerodynamic. The CNC machined blades allow less material on each blade, and that equates to a higher mass flow rate. There are other reasons the billet wheels are superior, but its too much to explain. http://i26.tinypic.com/4t2b86.jpg

turotufas 09-02-2010 02:26 AM

Heyzues! This man is a baller!

railz 09-02-2010 03:14 AM

dont worry i still believe in the 1.6 too ;D

ShadowZ 09-02-2010 09:17 PM

Looks BADASS man!!! Im definitely in for dyno numbers as well

jtothawhat 09-03-2010 12:23 AM

More pictures tomorrow!!! Stand by

sasquatch 09-03-2010 02:11 AM

OMFG i love the idle on this car :D sounds sweet, cant wait to get a set of cams like this in my car lol...

jtothawhat 09-03-2010 03:46 PM

http://i53.tinypic.com/sy8a4k.jpg

Everything is coming together nicely, my intercooler piping is the shortest i've ever seen and should help out a lot with spool, im running a duel backdoor FMIC set up with 3" cold side piping, 2.5" hotside.

viperormiata 09-03-2010 03:51 PM

Beautiful. But we need to see more!

jtothawhat 09-03-2010 04:00 PM

I attempted to take more but my battery died, more to come!

mazpr 09-04-2010 09:04 AM

Nice setup!

railz 09-04-2010 12:03 PM

dude get moar pics now!!!11!!ONE!

jtothawhat 09-09-2010 04:45 PM

Some more pictures from today, it will be done by early next week and tuning session to follow. More to come!

I dont agree with the smaller rad and the ram style header, but I sure like the thread build.

By the way... that t-shirt still had some use.

jtothawhat 09-09-2010 06:07 PM

What don't you agree about the ramhorn? It is the most efficient style manifold for my power goals, I had to go to the half radiator because of my intercooler set-up, surprisingly it holds just about the same amount of coolant as my old Ron-Davis, due to this one being about 1" thicker.

EDIT: That t-shirt does have a good use, it's covering my expensive ass explosed head and cams from dust. lol

18psi 09-10-2010 12:51 AM

Ramhorn is great.
He doesn't know dick about miata's.

The radiator however I'm not very fond of either. I'm sure it gets the job done though.

jtothawhat 09-10-2010 01:05 AM

Yeah, obviously I would rather have my full size radiator but I don't think I will have a problem at all. I have a big spal fan, and re-route so I should be good. I don't autox or track my car, I use it only on nice days and doing some highway pulls...we'll see.

waste :( Also are you planing to upgrade to a ATI Damper

jtothawhat 09-10-2010 11:44 AM

I would if I could, I have a shortnose crank so it doesn't fit :-(

o boo. Well what do I know my motor is stock lol

Sheesh, story of my life, lol. Next year i'm going to make the switch just for that very reason when I freshen up my motor. I'm gonna be shooting for around the same power that you are, but on way different hotside. We need more 400whp+ 1.6 cars out there :giggle:

As long as you have a serious puller fan I don't think you will ever have a problem with that radiator. What are the specs on the intercooler? It looks pretty thick.

Also, what is the extra breather port in the valve cover for? Crinkle red rules!

railz 09-10-2010 01:28 PM

Looks like he blocked off the breather port on the driver side of the valve cover soo he added another port in the same breather cell as the passenger side

jtothawhat 09-10-2010 01:38 PM

The intercooler is a ETD custom made piece, it has a 3.5" thick core, 12" tall w/Tial BOV coming off the cold side endtank, duel backdoor design.

We do need more high horsepower Miata's in general! I have no idea what the record is for a 1.6L Miata but I am going to try to have the highest recorded horsepower Miata in the country.

I think that once I rebuild this motor I will go to a long nose crank also w/a ATI dampener and billet oil pump gears; the short nose crank has never gave me problems at all and I am running a mazdaspeed HV oil pump.

My builder recommended two breather ports for my valve cover, I don't know the reason why but what the hell lol...they're both located under the baffle in the valve cover and I removed the stock PVC.

I saw that the nipple was gone, but I had just figured that he was going to put a threaded fitting in it aswell.

jtothawhat 09-10-2010 01:45 PM

I was going too but it is painfully close to the manifold.

railz 09-13-2010 03:50 AM

im going to be re-doing my valve cover to have both breather ports in one cell like yours. Very good idea there and hope you dont mind if i steal it! =P

jtothawhat 09-13-2010 01:50 PM

Go for it man, shoot me some pictures once you completed it!

blindboxx2334 09-13-2010 04:09 PM

too much win for one thread!

rxmx 09-28-2010 10:43 PM

any updates??

jtothawhat 09-28-2010 11:04 PM

Tomorrow there will be for sure, I will update this thread when I find out more on the problem I am having on starting it...I do have a new picture of the motor though.

http://i53.tinypic.com/28rlahe.jpg

leatherface24 09-29-2010 10:24 AM

i love this thread. im going to copy you hardcore on the valve cover -an lines

Braineack 09-29-2010 10:27 AM

I hope you dont want that wire over the manifold to last long...or your are hoping to get some sort of insurance money for the total loss from fire damage.

jtothawhat 09-29-2010 12:09 PM

No, that wire isn't staying there...it is actually my Oil pressure gauge/sensor line. It just isn't installed yet.

Techsalvager 10-24-2010 11:04 PM

What radiator are you running there. Interested in getting it later on.

theshdwconspracy 10-25-2010 06:39 AM

This is awesome.

Rotaryman 10-27-2010 10:35 PM

it looks like a Civic Half rad

atenzany62 11-13-2010 07:05 PM

that looks beastly

Nagase 11-17-2010 06:37 AM

I love youre thread and as someone else said"too much win for one thread:idea:"
I,m runnin a bastard euro spec NB with a B6 in South Africa and would love some advice from you:brain: later on if you dont mind?:bowrofl:
Keep it up man!

levnubhin 11-17-2010 02:55 PM

I think you need brake fluid.

I actually don't have it. It's just a popular badass looking catchcan and it's pretty cheap. Peterson can sell you all the fittings and hoses you need too. I didn't get it because I wanted a super cheap one.
