SuperJail!

I recently found a new favorite show on TV- SuperJail. It's a series of shorts aired on Adult Swim, centered around a maximum security prison located inside a volcano which is located inside a larger volcano. Internally, the prison constitutes its' own reality, unencumbered by the laws of space/time, where the physical universe is subject to the whims of the warden. Imagine Willy Wonka on crack. There's no nudity or conventional profanity, but it is prone towards gratuitous violence- pretty much every episode ends in a spectacular bloodbath.

I watched an episode over the holiday break. Not my cup of tea. SuperJail is seriously twisted. Not twisted cool, twisted as in, "What sane person would enjoy this?". I guess Joe answered that question for me. :)

I like the animation style though.

i love that show. i watched it high once though and it deeply unnerved me.

Ive seen maybe 6 or 7 episodes, enjoyable. Greatly prefered over anything that the tim and eric dicks do, hate those d-bags.

Directly from wikipedia.

"The majority of Superjail! is set inside the titular prison. Externally, Superjail is built inside a volcano which is itself located in a larger volcano. Internally, it seems to constitute its own reality, where the fabric of time and space is extremely fluid and changes at the whim of the Warden. "

Nicely done Joe.

I liked Ren and Stimpy, is this along the same lines?

Very much so. At least, the early Spümcø / Kricfalusi episodes.

Are you kidding Joe? Not even close IMO. Ren & Stimpy was gross out humor with cartoon style violence. I am basing this off of one episode, but SuperJail was all dismemberment/gore/bloodbath.

Watch it and see if you like it Sam, but do not go in with Ren and Stimpy expectations.

Joe Perez 01-22-2009 05:10 PM

Well, psychologically it reminds me a bit of Ren & Stimpy. The plots are incongruous, and it's silly in a "look at cute little bunny rabbit grazing in front of the fatal train wreck" sort of way.

In terms of content, it's a gory bloodbath. Think Willy Wonka / Alice in Wonderland, produced by the creators of Saw and the Cube trilogy.

What really appeals to me however is the artistic style. Imagine the illegitimate child of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine and Pink Floyd's The Wall.

Example:

Joe... do you by any chance use marijuana?

I thought something was wrong with me, but I am glad to know I am not the only one that enjoys that twisted show lol. I saw it for the first time a few days ago. Normally shows like that creep me out - Squid-billies for example.

Hahaha. No, I don't. Well, a couple of times with clients from work, but not very often and not for the past few years. In fact, I've never really been into drugs of any kind. It's funny because now that I'm back in Florida, I've been running into a few old classmates from high school, all of whom have pretty much said "man, I had you fingered as a druggie for sure back then."

I just enjoy eclectic art. Seriously- I remember watching "The Wall" on Laserdisc about 15 years ago, and it really spoke to me.

ApexOnYou, yeah, I'm not a big fan of the network in general, but it's amazing what you'll watch on TV when you're stuck in a hotel room with a crappy channel selection for several weeks. Squidbillies is kinda hokey, but I like Drinky Crow (again, great artwork).

Damn. I thought I had you figured. I always thought you would get really high and type out intense and way too indepth posts to show off your brilliance. But I was wrong.
