Survive the 25 airs today, 5pm EST on NBC Sports Network

As the title says "Survive the 25" will air in a few hours on the NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus).

Sorry for the short notice but I just found out about this.

I believe the show will follow the DG Spec Scion team who finished third in E1, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 949 Racing cars make a few appearances.

Our RSX might also make the show as we were one of the class competitors of the DG Spec car and we were running basically neck and neck for the first 12 hours with them.

Anyway, record/watch it if you can, it should be a cool show.

DOH, forgot to add this...

sixshooter 03-19-2012 03:48 PM

I don't get that channel. Can somebody tech savvy record it and upload in some form I could watch later?

newold_m 03-19-2012 04:04 PM

Thanks for the heads-up..! Just setup the DVR..

newold_m 03-19-2012 09:38 PM

Just finished watching.. Was pretty cool but only saw Crusher for a split second and Enzo right at the end...

GeneSplicer 03-20-2012 08:09 AM

Mehhh - a documentary about the 3 teams with Ford GT, a nacsar truck, and a scion that grenaded a motor - which was cool that they replaced the engine and still took 3rd.... all I saw was Enzo at the finish props at the very end.

Efini~FC3S 03-20-2012 10:20 AM

I think the Ford GT and Supertrucks were also on the 2010 version of this show.

I find it hard to believe the team with a $200k+ Ford GT race car didn't pack an extra serpentine belt. Or that they couldn't set up an oil pressure gauge with a warning light so they wouldn't drive on a motor with low/no oil pressure for ~ 2 mins. Apparently having lots of money doesn't necessarily mean you have any clue what you are doing...

Also, the Supertruck team's race ended when they broke the front crankshaft bolt when "torquing" it down....with a big ass impact wrench. Apparently torque wrenches are too technical of a tool for a nascar truck.

Finally the DG Spec team. I had heard that the owner was a blithering idiot, but hadn't actually met him. After watching the show last night I believe all the rumors. Not only is he a moron, but he can't drive to save his life. Their car was fast, but when he was in it they were ~ 4 seconds a lap slower. My favorite part is when they said they didn't have as big of a budget as the other E1 competitors. I would be willing to bet money if you looked at the expense reports for all of the E1 teams, DG Spec would be near or at the top. We had to beg, borrow and steal to put together a barrel scraping budget to field our E1 car. Everyone calls us a "factory" team, but if they saw our actual budget they would probably laugh.

Anyway, final gripe. They mentioned that DG Spec and ourselves were neck to neck through the first ~12 hours, which we were. Then they went on to say DG Spec had built up a 20+ lap lead, and failed to mention how. The owner then comes on to say that they had built up that lead by having fast pit stops and fast drivers/lap times. No. They built up that lead because we hit some oil/water at the kink and went off at 100mph severely damaging all of the front suspension. The lead they had over the other E1 cars (all MX5s) was due to having a much, much faster car.

In the end, the story of DG Spec blowing a motor but making it back on track just in time to save the podium is a good one. Props to them for that. They didn't throw in the towel, and that shows the spirit you find at the 25. I remember being on the pit road when they went back out and I was very much surprised that they were able to get it back on track.

Anyway, DG Spec, good story, stupid owner.

And grats to 949 for getting a few mentions and a few cameos.

Sorry for the chapter book post...

Never mind. The summary was enough.

I didn't set my DVR to record and forgot I could do it online from the shop. argh. Hoping I can find someway to get a copy in HD.

We'll be racing against DG if they return in E1 for 2012.

Efini~FC3S 03-22-2012 01:00 PM

Which means you'll also be racing against us, if we're able to return this year.

It's hard to say now, but it doesn't look good...

Doesn't look good for who?

Efini~FC3S 03-23-2012 11:02 AM

For THR (Team Honda Research, the team that fielded the white and blue RSX in E1 last year) to field an E1 car, budget wise. As in we have zero budget (again) and it doesn't look like we'll be able to put together a program for the 25HR this year.

Now, whether or not HPD puts together something is a different matter. I'm praying they do, and they invite me to participate...

Cool. We like beating factory teams.

If by factory you mean a little shop that a handful of guys work volunteer hours out of then yeah, it's a factory team.

The "factory" team (by the more classical definition) was the team that fielded the 2012 Civic Si last year. Even that team isn't much of a "Factory" team either since it's all volunteers working after hours.

But yes, the more competition the merrier.

I just hope I get to be involved...

Who funds the operations and where do they get most of the parts?
