V8 Miata cockpit video at TWS

his is in-car camera footage I recorded during the Texas Miata Challenge at Texas World Speedway on November 19, 2010. This version includes a gauge overlay of the GPS telemetry.

Short description of my car:
- Stock LS1, T-56 trans, Ford 8.8 with 3.5 gears and Truetrac diff.
- Stock brakes with Corrado kit on the front, sport kit on the rear. Wilwood prop valve. Carbotech XP10 on front, XP8 on rear
- 700/400 coilovers with Koni race shocks, RB front bar, no rear bar. Poly bushings all around.
- Nitto NT01 225/45/15
- APR GT II aluminum wing in the rear, DIY splitter on the front.
- Not sure on the weight as I have stripped out more parts since I last weighed it but guessing somewhere in the 2400 lb range wet with no driver.

Best lap that day was a 2:01.3 (not on the video) which is basically a very respectable Spec Miata lap time at this track. The car is easily capable of sub 2:00 laps.

I'm tired of trying to make the embed work. I still do not know WTF. Copy embed code from youtube, paste between the YT tags. Right?

No, ignore the embed function in youtube. Just copy what's after the "=" in the actual page URL, then paste that between the YT tags. You can also remove any of the "&" thingies...the vid identifier itself is like 8 or 10 characters long I think.

scroll all the way down, and click on BB code in ON. it will tell you how. or Rick's sticky on it...

i hate embeded vids. it's an extra click if you wanna go full screen. anyway's
zx, dude, there's a ton of time left in your car as is. i was taking turn 10 about 10mph faster in jakes car, and i go a little faster than that in my car. that's one of the few corners i am actually going all out in. i have about 3 corners down, the rest i need to get serious and push it till it starts to slide. if you don't have a slight angle through the corner, your not going fast enough. and i guess that's what it really boils down to for all of us. short of being a racing phenom, the only way to find the max speed in a corner without spinning/sliding off the track all day, is to slowly go faster every time until you reach the point that a. you have a slight slip angle and b. you have to use every inch of track out space available, and in some corners a little more.
that's why we're concentrating on a few tracks next year. i imagine everybody's gonna pick up some time just from familiarity.

this is from the one session i got in august. i was working on turn 1 and using the handy cones as markers. i thought i had gotten to wot just after the start of the cones, but in the vid you can hear it's just before the cones. i shift to 5th just before the transition. car was still planted solid, that means i was slowing down too much in the braking zone and/or could have floored it even sooner but i ran out of time.

Agreed on everything Spoolin' said above.

And now the highlights reel

spoolin2bars 11-25-2010 02:25 PM

I think I was counting wrong. I think I meant turn 9 which is the uphill left hander after the carousel and short straight.

ZX-Tex 11-25-2010 04:28 PM

I was definitely coming out of the carousel in a four wheel drift out to the edge of the track. That was fun.
