What'd you say deer?
Here's another good reason for using your helmet visor! I thought he did a good job covering his eyes at the last moment

I saw the aftermath, I was just out of sight of the crash when i happened; taking pics of turn 3.

FFuuuuccckkkk.... nasty

I want a pic of the interior, looks like a sizable chunk was left in there.

I have a few I can post when I'm home. looked like a corvette with glass all over.

Would just like to point out how he lets go of the wheel with both hands to grab his face because his visor was up. Lucky the car went little left on to the grass and not right into the path of on coming cars.
Keep your face mask down. |

I do not understand how people can drive with the visors up or with open faced helmets. I have been hit by rocks in the face with my visor up just driving around an autoX course with new r-comps, there is no way I would be driving at the speed with it up I dont care how hot it is. Eyes > discomfort.

I am guilty of driving with my visor up in the car, with the hardtop on. I find with the visor down my breath fogs it in the car at low speeds. I have tried closing the visor just before green flag for the session, and while that works during the session, the visor starts to fog rolling back to the paddock, and I can't raise it one handed. I am always wearing my sunglasses, which while not as good as the visor, at least offer some impact protection.
In open air, like in a kart, that's not a problem. Perhaps not with the top down at an autox either. |
|
I'm pretty sure you can run a duct from the stock window area aimed at the bottom of the helmet to keep air circulating there.
|
I don't do this because ... not racecar. I'll manage.

Foggy helmet is not a joke.

yeah, plus I'm a mouth breather...I've never been able to run visor down without steamin' up the place. |
I have an open face helmet for autocross and have never wished for anything more. I tried using it once on a motorcycle and it was awful. Now I know not to try it on a real track if I ever go to one.
|
Well I'd say it depends on the track. PIR here in Portland doesn't have any deer or other large animal issues that I'm aware of. ORP doesn't either - you can literally see for 10 miles in every direction. There's a reason the town is called "Grass Valley". A lot of people run open face helmets.
