Hello,

I have meet a couple of you already, but I would like have a formal greeting to everyone.

I have been a Miata owner since the late summer of 2005, when I bought my red '91. I made a few suspension upgrades (R-package bilstein and springs, RB sways with adjustable end links) I loved the car as a DD but as such, I couldn't spend more than a weekend tearing her down and putting her back together before I needed to use her again. So, I was looking for another car that I could have as a "spare". While one is being worked on...the other can be on the road. Last month I came across this sweet deal in NJ. A 1991 BRG LE with 95,000 miles (and hardtop) for $1600.00. She had been sitting for a few years in the driveway and had paint issues. Apparently the previous owners wife hit a deer or two and when they repaired the body they used clear coat....well, the clear was flaking off now in spots. A spot of rocker rust, but other than that she runs good, borla exhaust. The shocks are shot and the springs are rusted through on both rears, so I am looking to get replacements. (Side note: Bought a replacement set of AGX from :bang:Znut/ChuckyZ:crx:...never got them, I was scammed) So the search goes on. I am getting a new set of calipers (big brakes in the front) and the valve cover powder coated this week, and I have to install the new brake booster, SS lines and new parking brake cables. I am replacing the a-arms with a fresh rust free, low mileage set with nice looking stock bushings.

Also, the deal came with a set of steel wheels, stock daisys, '95 BBS rims, 15x7 Panasport...for a total of $2300.00

-Cheers,

Jim

Welcome. Does it have the short nose crank?

Nope, both are 91.5 long nose! I replaced the timing belt and WP on my red one and was happy to see the pully with 8 holes (4 holes = shortnose crank). All of the BRG were long nose cars. Also, the BRG has viscous limited slip...not the best, but my Red '91 is open. My long term hope is to FI the BRG and keep the red one a stock air breather....although I did do a DIY cowl air intake on her.

-Cheers,

Jim

Here are a few pictures to update the progress done so far:

-Oil change
-Differential Oil change
-New plugs
-New NKG wires
-New fuel filter (drained all gas in the tank as well)
-Fixed power steering hose (fresh power steering fluid)
-bumped timing to 16º
-Getting new brake calipers/brackets powder coated
-Getting valve cover powder coated

Removed the suspension to install a fresh set of a-arms and a set of Bilsteins from a 1999 sport (hard).

I found some rust in the rockers that I will address, I purchased a set (left/right) of replacement rocker panels.

-Cheers,

Jim

-after this....FI

Cool project. We just picked up a miata for $750 last week with a crushed rad support and blown head gasket. Should have it running and driving this week. I like saving miata's.
