Default Hi from Manchester (UK)

Hi all,

I posted on here a while ago with my old car:

But with this being a depowered (90bhp) car I decided it wasn't the base to turbo. So I sold it and bought this!

It's a 93/94 1.8 Eunos. And it's completely rot free

I've added:

* Bc Racing BR Coilovers
* Cobra Monaco S bucket seats
* 5Zigen Border 304 exhaust
* RMD Suede steering wheel
* GV Replica front lip
* Rs Watanabe F8's
* And probably some other stuff I can't remember!

And it now looks like this:

The plan is to start off with a low boost setup, around 180bhp with Megasquirt fueling it. And then start upping the power aiming to get to around 250bhp with new clutch/injectors etc.

I hope to start posting on here and asking questions, hopefully not too noobish!

Thanks for looking,
-Lew

Looks like a good plan.

Are you talking crank or wheel hp? BHP usually refers to crank. Assuming you're referring to whp, then at 250 you'll be on the average limit of the internals which is a little close for comfort.

Yeah that's what I've heard, in all honesty I'll be happy with 220/230.

Edit - I meant crank.

Stock clutch should max out at about 210ish which is a good goal for stock internals. Of course theres the freaks of nature that run 20psi on stock internals and are still fine, and theres also the unlucky ones that bend rods at 200 so all you can do is do your best on the tunning. IMO if i pull the engine to do a clutch, might as well do the internals as well.

Cheers guys,

My main problem at the moment is deciding which ECU I want to opt for, this is the first car I have turbo'd ever, and to be honest, it's all a bit of a mind ****.

I've seen all sorts of choices so far, one guy supplying an Enhanced MS2 or MS3, another guy producing a CANEMS based ecu... One of the reasons I joined here, to try and get my head around all the choices and what's best for me.

Most here do MS. The knowledge base (and our ability to help you) is maximized with that route.

Mazda never sold depowered MX-5's here. Also, from those of us in the Southern and Western US . . . rot??

I ended up needing a clutch at only ~170RWHP. But it was a 1.6 clutch. I think the 1.8 is stronger.

Why did you add a white circle on your door?

Yeah, the 1.8 is a bigger clutch.

Rot = Rust ;] as in nothing is rotten.

And I added the roundel as I'm trying to push the car down a retro racer type deal, with the extra power that these cars should have always been given!

Megasquirt seems to be my favoured plan so far, but I'm struggling to find reputable providers in the UK that can build me one, at a cost that is reasonable.

You can go for a Basic MS2, which is significantly cheaper than the MS3, and will still do well unless you plan on doing mad things.

Yes, I know. I was saying that we don't have rust in the Southern and Western parts of this country.

Seriously? You want electronics built in the UK? Lucas electric perhaps? You really are going for retro.

Ah Rev you're on here too, I need PAS control so it's between Enhanced MS2/MS3. Enhanced MS2, from what I gather will do me fine, but the little greedy devil in me wants MS3. I think realistically for cost it'll have to be Enhanced MS2 though.

There are some awesome roads around here, and I'm lucky enough to live in a place that's East of the Welsh mountains, West of the Peak district and south of the Lake district! so 1 hour drive in any direction and I'm on windy roads in the hills!

Unfortunately the weather over here can be pretty crap most of the time. But it doesn't stop us having the roof down!

Edit, roads like these:

Those pictures make me want to slit my wrist. I'm seriously contemplating taking a video of driving around the keys. Then you people will understand why I am the way I am.

Well it looks like I've opted for the Link G4 ECU.

Infact, this is getting quite involved for an introduction thread... I'll set up a build thread tomorrow!
