Default Hello from MN

Hi everyone. I sold my fully built 2009 WRX Hatch this weekend to get myself into the Miata game. My cousin has had a 92 Blue for 14 years. I was living with him around the time he picked up the car (stock). I have always had a thing for Miatas but never had the funds to own two cars. Well this weekend I decided to jump on a friends Miata that was up for sale and pick myself up a DD as well.

This is my old WRX. Mod Details and More Pics Here

This is my new Daily Driver. A fully loaded 2005 Subaru LGT Limited. I am very happy I picked up another Subie as my DD. It has some mods... HTA68 w/ 8cm hot side turbo, FMIC, suspension and a few other goodies. Trying to keep it as it. We had to toss a new boost controller on and give her a tune but the plan is to only put money into the Miata.

And here is my new baby.
1991 Miata B Package Clean title, no accidents, no rust

I have big plans for this car. I already picked up a bunch of parts from my cousin's turbo build that we are going to be swapping over this summer / fall as his 92 goes into V8 turbo beast mode. I was looking for a stock setup, but I personally know the pervious owner. He picked up the car stock from Iowa. He is a very active person in the National AutoX scene, so his mods were tastefully but also limited to his class. Knowing his history with cars and seeing the builds on his past Evo's and STI's I felt good about picking up his car.

Besides the build that we are going to swap into it there are a few things on my list to check off already.

- First things first she needs a good cleaning inside and out. The engine bay needs some love and the interior could use some hours too. It is a very clean car, but I am OCD about my cars. I want it as spotless as possible.
- I also want to clean the automatic windows. I read the thread in the archives on Miata.net and that is on my list for a weekend coming soon.
- Big front brakes are the first mod on the list. She still has the 1.6 brakes all around. I am going to swap to the 1.8's in the rear because I want to keep my E-brake. I have been looking at the 949 willwood 11" brake kit for the fronts. She is going to see an equal mix of street and track time (road course, no AutoX for me).

Here is how she is currently setup.

Welcome to the forum. You will need to upgrade to the 1.8 diff as soon as possible. The 1.6 ones fail at stock power.

The parts that I am pulling from my cousins build include...
Fully built 1.6 with Turbo and supporting mods
Keeping my 6 speed but taking his multi-disc clutch
Built Diff
Built axels

He has a very soild setup. I will start a build thread once I we start swapping stuff over. Then I can get more specific about the parts and add pics. Right now I am just getting some seat time in and getting used to the RWD platform. Coming from the subie world I have some major seat time ahead of me. Which is why I am in no rush to swap it all ASAP. However, it will be in sometime this summer / fall.

I am in the process of researching a good ECU option. We believe his Mega Squirt may have issues. So I am trying to educate myself on what is out there. I have a good friend that tunes, but Miatas are not Subies, so I am thinking about looking into remote tuning options as well. Any advice is welcomed. until then I will just keep using the search feature and see what I can find.

Thanks. I will do my best to use the search feature to find the answers that I need... and once we start the swap I will get a build thread going. I am looking forward to being a part of this forum. From my hours of reading threads yesterday there doesn't seem to be any big egos, which some car forums can have. This is an added bonus and usually helps with the credibility of the knowledge. So far it has been very helpful in my search for the best engine management options. I am leaning towards the MSPnP, Version 2 (I believe is the latest version). It sounds like this will be the best option for my setup and my wallet.

I really want to add upgraded brakes as a supporting mod as I get into the boosted RWD platform. My subie had some tasteful brake mods but I never got around to doing big brakes. I guess maybe because I could pull a 25 min track session before I felt any fade. I know this isn't the case with the 1.6 brakes. So it is important to me that this gets done before or around the time I do the swap. The template I found last night leads me to believe that 11" fronts will work with my 15x8 wheels.

The MS3 is the latest version. Look in the vendor's section for MS Labs and take a look at the MS3 Basic thread. I believe it will be everything you need. Reverent is good at what he does.

lol, well looks like i failed at reading.

I thought when I clicked on the MSPnP link and went to an external website it said version 2 was the latest. Maybe it was a second version of the MSPnP??? I will try and find what I clicked on. I believe it was in the sticky threads.

Thanks for the heads up.

Take a look at this thread, and you can see that megasquirt is the rule around here.

Here's Rev's post describing the MS3 basic.
