2nd Miata, "Turbo ready" scared of Megasquirt

Last year I bought my first miata, but it was a 92, 1.6, vlsd, not super clean, so I sold it and just picked up a 95, 1.8, torsen, clean, that was being built for a turbo when the owners wife got preggo my eggo. It already has FM 1 clutch, Megasquirt, wideband, 640cc injectors, EGR delete, coolant re route, Aluminum rad, wheels/tires, coils, etc.

I'll be shopping soon for turbo and piping, but for now I'm trying to get it tuned better for hot weather. I've downloaded Tuner Studio, however I'm afraid to plug it up because I dont want to loose the tune that it already has programmed (a/c idle up, larger injectors). So my question is, is there any way i can download the tune from the previous owner as a baseline? Or will tuner studio recognize it when it connects? Or will it automatically re write the brain and ill have to start building a tune from square one?

This car is my daily driver so im scared of it being down for any length of time unexpectedly. I know any post is worthless without pics, so I will do my best to get some posted when i get home.

Thanks!

It will not clear the map in the ECU when they connect unless you tell it to overwrite with your current tunerstudio settings. Once things are connected it will compare the tune on the controller and the tune in tunerstudio and ask you which one you want to use. Chose controller and not current tunerstudio setting and it will be fine.

do that then save a copy of the current tune, so when you do mess it up you can put the working one back on.

if you don't do anything blatantly silly, it won't effect your tune/ecu in any way

......Seeing you use the term "plug it up" really makes that a big if though.

Well, which version of MS is it for starters?

For a turbo setup, check out MKTurbo.

It's a DIYPNP. When I plug it up and try to create new project in tuner studio and detect firmware I get a message that says "TunerStudio does not have a configuration to support the found firmware: MS2/ Extra release 3.3 20141112 12:53GMT(c)KC/JSM/JB uSM Required Serial Signature: MS2Extra comms333eM Please click the "other" checkbox and browse to the Ecu Definition (ini) file provided with your firmware."

What does that mean??

I encountered this very same error message today. I got around it by bypassing my Norton firewall for a few moments. This allowed TS to call home and update, which cured the error problem. I then added TS to the allowed programs list within the Norton firewall. It took a couple of reboots to get things sorted, but once the "javaw.exe file was given access, things worked fine.
