Another damn Texan!

Hi, my name is Steve...and I'm an addict.

I haven't had a boosted car in about a year, so I'm starting to feel the urge again. I'm still not sure what my final plans are; they just always seem to be in flux. Maybe, just maybe, if I read enough here, I'll be able to iron out a plan.

Right now I've got a lovely '90 sitting outside with a shortnose and bad rings on #4, as well as a '99 that's my temp car until my spare 1.6 gets a little freshening and new rods & rings.

I've been lurking a bit for a few months and have spent the last three or so days reading on everything from clutches & flywheels to rings, engine mgmt. and machine work. Naturally, I've gotten to a few of the stickies, saved threads and FAQs.
...oh, and I know how to spell and try not to ask stupid crap. Not too much, anyway. :giggle:

Since everyone seems to like pictures, here are the most recent I have of my '90 (from last spring, sadly)...

The good:
it has Flex, FM front sway (plus a RB NB hollow bar I want to try out), PWR radiator with SPAL fans, and is now sitting on bronze 15x8 6ULs
The bad:
original 6" diff, above-mentioned #4 issue, plus the PS and A/C are still intact...which will be changing soon.

I suppose that's it for starters. Read you soon!

awesome first post Steve, one of the very best.
Thread title made me chuckle:D

hey what kid of steering wheel is that?

Fireindc 01-04-2009 02:11 AM

+1 great first post. Nice car, welcome!

If I recall correctly, it's a 330mm Momo Champion. Came with the car, and it will go bye-bye once I have the car operational again. I much prefer the 330 Deep Corn that I moved to the NB when the white car started eating a quart of oil per week...

18psi 01-04-2009 02:46 AM

i'll take it off your hands for the right price;)

juxt3r 01-04-2009 02:49 AM

I'll be swapping another wheel in there in the next couple of weeks (lucky I keep spares, right?). Shoot an email my way, & we'll see what we can work out.

Glad to see another local guy on this forum, your car looks great. Is that the hardcore single diagonal roll bar?

Toddcod 01-04-2009 08:12 AM

Dude the interior is awsome. I love the red.

Is that a R package in the background?

Are you really going to take the A/C off? Or are you just making a track car? I almost sweated a nut off last year. LOL

Welcome! &
Good Luck!

I was a little surprised at how many DFW folks are on here. Nice to see I'm not alone. :)
HDHCSD...You've got it! Need to pad that bitch before I knock myself silly one day.

Thanks, Todd! I can't take credit for the interior. The PO did most everything to make the car appear as it does. I just lusted after it for two years before she decided to sell it to me. I've only changed out the suspension (it came to me with R-pkg bilsteins and yellow/white dot springs and was a very rough ride), wheels & tires, and a little in the interior.
Cars in the background are: a Silverstone that was T-boned & repaired, a '93 LE w/o driveline and in need of love, and a much nicer '93 LE with a 1.8 swap and a few other goodies and hardtop. All three belong to one of the locals, Rogue, who lives on an airstrip near Justin, TX.

I went through last summer w/o working A/C, so I'm not worried. I don't have to dress nice for work, so three-window cruising works just fine; just need to get rid of the hardware at this point. The car was a daily, and I'd like to have it that way again

Thanks for the welcomes!

STEVE!!! Welcome man! Great to see you on here!

You need to post pics of the '90 with the bronze 6ul's and pics of the '99 ASAP!

Saml01 01-04-2009 02:16 PM

I have never seen that toneau cover on a miata.

What does it secure too on the dashboard?

I also really like the red interior with a white exterior. I usually dont like it, but it works well with white. Hate it when the car is black.

hustler 01-04-2009 02:21 PM

I have a powerful lust for red interior on any car. Link to license plate bracket?

horrer

juxt3r 01-04-2009 04:50 PM

wags - Both cars are dirty as hell. Motegis on the '99 look like they're white, for example. Maybe once I get 'em cleaned up... Catch you Wednesday?

Sam - The tonneau is held on a few different ways. The dash has Tenax fasteners screwed into the top. You can see both the dash pins and the connectors here. There are some plates under the door mirrors that have snaps on them, similar to the snaps close to where the side top striker plates attach to the "b-pillar". The rear attaches just like a top boot.

hustler - wags told me about your car getting back together recently. Seeing your threads here & elsewhere has been a bit...intimidating. Damn nice build! Think I'll be using the same place for engine work as you, since it's a lot closer than the place I usually use. Looks less spendy as well.
The plate bracket was made by a local: it's a (reversed) Stiffy. I think Titus and 3Bean have 'em, as well. I haven't heard from the guy in ages, though. All I recall is that he had a couple of silver cars at one point. BigDStars, maybe?

hustler 01-04-2009 07:29 PM

I think I'm just going to buy a mig (and a grinder) and start making the shit I need.

Thank you for the kind words on my toy...I don't know that I consider it "intimidating" as much as its overbuilt and well-sorted. Do you hit the track?

Bond 01-04-2009 07:43 PM

Home Depot front lip?

trackfiend on dfwmiata AKA Chris Whitehead that works at motorsport ranch.

apariah 01-04-2009 09:14 PM

I didn't know he was still around here, but I've also been away for a while.

Ahhh, yes, trackfiend! Thanks, wags. :) My memory sucks for names...

Bond - front & rear R-pkg lips on the car. Brake ducting is my friend!

hustler - no track time in a Miata as of yet. I'm slowly stepping toward that, though, with the little changes I've made in the cooling & suspension bits. Previous time is limited to drag in my old turbo wagon.

Looks like I'm in trouble already. Just scored a set of 460s. :eek5: Next on the list: rods.
I was plenty annoying with 260fwhp in the last, 2700lb car. Let's see what happens this time.
