Another Noob Turboing a 1.6

Hi my name is Sean and I have a 1993 Miata. It has a few suspension upgrades and nothing in the power department yet. I live in Concord,CA. My plans for the car are to solder a megasquirt together, run a 190 hp fuel pump and larger injectors just want a well tuned 200 rwhp car like almost everyone else, with the right parts so I can improve power without wasting money. I currently have a k26 Turbo out of an audi 5000 (it was pretty much free and no shaft play), its weak but will have to do for now. Tomorrow I will probably decide whether to make my own manifold or find a good flange for the turbo.
Oh yeah I dont have and pictures up yet but should be putting them up within the next week or so.

The KKK K26 is the same turbo that came stock on Porsche 944 and are really more designed for around 2.5litre engines. It'll definitely make the power you want, but it's gonna spool mad-late on your 1.6.

Add this page to your "turbo favorites" file for future reference:

Here is the MAP for it:

Based on watching others make their own mani's/DP's for funky-flanged European factory turbo's, you're SO MUCH BETTER OFF NOT DOING IT unless you've got good welding skillz or are looking to be different for the sake of being different and cheap. There's nothing wrong with cheap, but it's a very common and DUMB mistake to start a turbo build around a turbo just because "I've already got one". There are far better turbo's for your goal of 200whp. Sell the K26 eBay and re-invest in a used Begi or FM mani/DP and an SR20det T25.

If you're looking at 200whp, 460cc injectors are plentiful and cheap.

Yeah I'll go ahead and sell the k26 hopefully I can get something out of it to go toward the T25, or ill just go to the pick and pull and try to get lucky. Thanks for all the information, links. Ill try and look at the rest of the inexpesive/reliable builds and go toward the path already traveled because im definately not looking to be different for the sake of it.

also, Sam and Sean. If its out of a 5000 turbo, its most likely a K24, I think the 200 20VT's came with K26's, but I have a K24 for my Audi 90 and it came out of a 5000T. so its probably a bit smaller than you were thinking sam, and probably a little more well suited for your build, Sean, those 5000 are 2.2s and make around 225hp stock, and I know SOME ppl make K-series manifolds for Miata's because I'v seen some on the Japanese junk yard online sites. but a nice log manifold with a K24/6 flange should be a piece of cake.

Thanks, on the turbo it posts a labeled k26 but yeah as for now ill prolly just try and sell it for around 100 bucks and hopefully be able to find a t25 with as little shaft play. I know it would work being the min engine size is 1.5, but sam is right in that it wouldn't have ideal spool time at all.
