Hello Folks -

I've been lurking around this site for some time and figured it's about time I get involved. I picked up a '93 base model last summer with the hopes of running local autocross (Green Bay, WI) and track days at Road America. The car is my second vehicle so a stripped down car that I can have fun at the track and run on the street was the goal. I bought the car with 128k miles on it from an older gentleman and his wife who purchased it from their brother in Florida and brought it back to Wisconsin. The car is mostly rust free, but is not without it's issues.

Some modifications I have made since buying the car bone stock.
Koni Sports w/ Ground Control Sleeves (Poor Choice)
Replaced style bar with BBF GT3 (NA)
Sparco Evo Seats on Garagestar rails
Garagestar License Plate Bracket
Advanti Storm S1s Wrapped in Toyo Proxes R1R in a 225/45
949 Racing Lugs and Valve Stems
Soft top deleted and replaced with OEM Hardtop
Treasure Coast Miata Fiberglass Trunklid
...and a lot of maintenance.

Current issue: I just replaced the seals on the front of the motor as well as the timing belt and water pump. This afternoon I got it all assembled and fired it up for the first time and now I have a terrible ticking noise which I assume is more than just the infamous lifter tick as it never made this sound before. I suspect that maybe it's an indication that my belt is off a tooth, but I was hoping you guys could help verify. Here is a link to my YouTube video:

Also for those wondering, my daily driver is a 2011 Infiniti G37xS Limited Edition. It's Malbec Black (Purple) with a Monaco Red leather interior. My expectation is to make "Not So Broke" college student build, but thus far, I have not documented anything.

I look forwarding to learning a lot from everyone here. Thanks for taking a look.

Sounds like liftet tick to me. Have you driven it long enough to get the oil fully warmed up? How long did it take you to do the timing belt job? (Did the car sit for a few days with the cams in a funny spot?)

My friend's car sounded horrendus after he spent all winter working on it and doing the timing belt. Cleared up after 15 minutes of driving.

Thanks for the reply. I fired the car up and heard the tick and then shut it back down know might that's not what it sounded like before everything was swapped. It took me about a week and half working a little at a time so the cams did sit for a bit. I'll go run the car right now and let it sit and run.. Will report back soon.

Fastest way to warm the oil up is drive it.

Welcome to the site. Nice choice of rides, my daily driver is a G-Sedan too.

Lifter tick it was... After running the car around the block a few times, the problem went away.
