Default Hello from Minneapolis

Hey everyone,

I am a noob to this site and wanted to say hi.

My name is Mark I am 44 and live in the south metro on Minneapolis.

I have an English Miata (MX5) which is 20 years old (tech ..its a RHD NA MX5). This makes it a little bit of a rarity in the midwest if not the US.

She has gone through many upgrades in the last few years including:

New roof (sunfast zipless), new paint (true red),new wheels/tires (6ULs and Kuhmos), Turbo (BEGI), intercooler (not sure), exhaust system (custom) lights (HIDs), engine management (eManage) to name a few.

I now have to replace the clutch (slips all the time...too much power) as I intend to get the power up into the high 200s and bigger brakes.

Anyone have recommendations on a high quality clutch and brakes without spending a load of money ( no more than $1500 for the two things).

I attach a couple of pictures of the car for you all.

Thanks everyone

Mark

1.6 I believe. I think it was a 90 if I'm not mistaken. Mark used to be local here in Jersey. Olderguy put in the turbo kit for him. Good guy. Welcome to the forum Mark. I left you a comment on the Mob.

Hi All,

Yeah Six shooter it is a 1990 1.6L

Hey Artie, you are correct that is/was me in NJ ...gotta a new job and had to relocate....miss you guys.

Looking to get the old girl up close to 300 rwhp this year but the clutch needs work first.

I installed a new turbo (a bigger BEGI) and I need to turn the heat up on that soon.

How are things in Jersey Artie ?

Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome to the board and welcome to Minneapolis. Where in S. metro are you? I'm in SW Minneapolis, 2 blocks south of lake calhoun.

If you have any interest, we have a great autocross club in the cities and registration for our first event of the season opened today.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the welcome, I do enjoy autocross (did it once in NJ).

Right now my old car need some work new radiator and clutch/flywheel after that though she should be ok to go.

I am in Apple Valley but my old car lives in Eagan.

Know any good tuners in the area?

I doubt an emanage will safely get you to 300rwhp piggybacked onto a vintage 1.6 ecu. Unless maybe if you go with a gt35 and run low boost. You could spool by 6400 & make 300 from 6800-7200.

Welcome!

Welcome from Rockford! (The shitty one in MN, not the one in IL)

Steve, you're right by Lake Calhoun? God damn, you, Taras, my best friend. Is Calhoun the new place to be?

Supercrew: If you're looking for a hand, I'm always looking to get experience and help someone out.

Nothing Miata specific, but MA Performance (MAP) has a good reputation.

Lake Calhoun/Isles/Harriet has ALWAYS been the place to be.

Ok so here is an update on the old girl.

I am changing out the engine and so far have the old 1.6L out.

I am fitting a low mileage 1.8L engine and changing the emanage for a megasquirt PNP kit.

Will keep you all posted if you like.
