been here for 5 years so why post a Noob hello?
well apparently shortly after this forum was converted over to the newer format in 05 I believe I sold my mariner blue 90 with the 92 motor...
prior to that I think I had around 80 posts under the old format, but that is neither here nor there. I have always kicked the idea of getting back into a miata for cheap as a sleeper commuter / weekend thrasher. other cars on that list were a 240Z and............. (insert any rwd car here) my daily is a 4 door e36 325i with mucho miles, but has all m3 suspension, motor, tranny, and rear end. it is fun, straight 6, 5 speed, smooth at freeway (+) speeds. my wife drives a Scion XB, and our 3rd rig is a Landcruiser FJ60. so why do I come to the miata given I have a good platform with the BMW? 3 words: NO SMOG ROTARY I moved from Northern CA into Oregon, and where I am there is no smog testing..... or any testing for that matter... perfect for mad scientist motor swaps, and porly designed diy turbo's. my ultimate dream was originally a 13b NA with ITB's. gutted interior hardtop only, and a full cage. but... with a budget, and a wife, and wanting to get it on the road asap I will settle for a boss frog roll bar, and a motor swap or build that would be more reliable... I want to do this in stages if possible. I want to go with a standard motor with a inexpensive turbo and a small power goal (160-180 at the wheels) to get started, and progress from there. The goal is to have something that is capable / controllable on the track for an autocross event, and something I can still cruise on a hot day with A/C without boiling over in traffic. the last place I introduced myself on here was in one of the turbo sections, and I do apologize, back when I started that thread that was the most appropriated place to do it... does anyone know if the guy that used to be one of the main mod's is still on here? was out in Salt Lake City if I remember, and went on to a black RX-7? |

Phillip's gone. I believe Brain and Rick share admin duties now.
Welcome back again. |

That was a while back.
Phillip disappeared pretty much immediately after selling the site. |
what makes a site valuable? seems to me the ad's would pay the overhead, and the owner would be stuck managing the constant bickering and whining of the populace...

There are still a few people hanging around from the Phillip era but most frequent posters seem to be post-Phil era. None the less the site is still just as useful as it always has been, though arguably slightly more tolerant of idiots and less entertaining (save for Hustler's e-thuging and the occasional part-out gone south when the seller is arrested for murder.) I don't even currently own a Miata and I still hang out for shits and giggles far more than anywhere else I do simply because I love this place, it's like home :pitlab: :riaa: That and I haven't managed to get banned by anyone but Phillip yet. |

I've done a lot of reading on motor swaps recently...and I highly recommend looking into the FE3 swap. M2cupcar here (FE3tmx-5 on cr.asshats) has a really good build thread/write-up.
http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=27035 FE3 has a lot more overhead for later power adders, would require similar fabrication (possibly easier) as the 13B, and is cheaper. Well, cheaper until you need TII driveline anyways. I decided I couldn't take the plunge regardless of how bad I wanted to and am just going to build a 1.6...but if I could go big block I would. http://www.solomiata.com/FE3info.html http://www.solomiata.com/FE3.html |

obviously the e36 is in the background. with out scion (green) that was my TLR after body and paint work... Rustoleum Satin white anyone? :) Attachment 201103 |
wow. may be picking up a 1995 M edition that needs extensive motor work, and a couple fenders for $300-400..... plus the drive down and the car dolly that would make it about $400-500..... were gettin' close....
the shop says it runs bad and smokes terrible, but the brakes, suspension, clutch work well, and the best thing about the car is the interior and the top....................... I'm stoked! |

Solomiata : Interchange : Detailed FE3 information Solomiata : Interchange : FE3 motor and if I still have a desire for a top I would consider a v8 for the miata shell... or SR20, or s2k motor :) s2k motor would be VERY fun in there. |
