Boosted Noob/Lurker
 

I've been a long time lurker/searcher (use the search function, people :cool:), and must say that I owe this community for all the great information and ideas. I'm finally boosted and love it. It's a bandaid setup for now; I originally wasn't sure of going turbo, so doing it as cheap as possible was the plan in case I wanted to revert. There's no going back now though, I'm addicted :eek5:.

The DIY setup so far:
10 psi (I can't go any less because of the wastegate actuator)
1.6L short nose (I have an extra complete long nose longblock just in case)
DSM T25 (2G Eclipse; it spools quickly and it's very inexpensive)
Ebay Mani + 2.5" DP (I know it'll crack, but it was cheap and hopefully the strut I made from the turbo to the engine mount will help)
305cc Supra Green Top Injectors, cleaned & flowed
BEGI 2025 FPR
Bipes ACU
RX-7 AFM
Type-S knockoff BOV
LC-1 WideBand O2, G3 Gauge
18x12x3 Ebay FMIC
2.5" Test Pipe
Full 2.5" Exhaust
Factory 1.6 open diff (have an extra 1.6 assy in case of failure; looking for 1.8 now...)

I know I have a lot to sort out to make it reliable, and the heat shield needs to be reworked, but it functions enough for a little fun, for now:

Looks good. :) You get points for recirculating your BOV.

what wheels are those? also just run a helper spring if your want to cut down the boost, but if its running good now i don't know why you'd want to :dunno:

They're Konig Minuz 15x6.5 +40... soon to be 15x8 6UL's.

Yeah, going straight to 10 psi right off the bat was scary; but luckily, I learned enough on here to do it safely. I'm not backing down now!

Oh yeah, and special thanks to guys like braineak, samnavy, etc :bowrofl:. for their informative posts and willingness to share. Also 'urban' for getting me started with his old turbo. I put this together entirely from information found on this site. And to think I was originally going to buy a Greddy kit...

Great setup... looks like all you're missing for the complete bandaid setup is an 02clamp (for sale in the classifieds all the time).

I assume you've got a bigger fuel pump as well... even 305's are gonna have a hard time getting enough fuel on the pressure of a stock pump.
If you do have a fuel pump, just get a cheap eBay MBC and you should be able to tune pretty good up to about 12-13psi... I'd say about 200whp on the DSM T25.

One thing I may suggest (didnt see it mentioned) is the DIY dual feed fuel rail. Its just cheap insurance.

I don't seem to have much, if any throttle lean tip-in, so I haven't gotten to the O2 clamp. Don't know why... maybe just running too rich.

I actually still have the stock pump, it puts out 65psi and my wideband shows a good ~13.0 afr all the way up to redline. What I do get is a sudden drop down (around 11-12 afr) every time I go from closed to open loop around 4krpm. The FPR is set to the minimum rise rate.

I have a MBC too, just haven't gotten around to increasing boost yet. I'm dealing with timing right now. I seem to be on the verge of pinging at my current setting of 14* base, and bipes pulling total of 10* sometimes. Maybe too small of an intercooler? Any suggestions?

I also have an extra fuel rail ready for the cheap/easy dual feed mod. Just haven't gotten around to doing that yet...

13:1 is a tad lean, hence knock. You need to add a touch more fuel. You don't need to be turning the boost up.
