Building a 92 turbo miata in M.A saying HI

Just saying Hi to everyone. I aquired my 92 miata from a friend about two years ago, drove it as is for a year and had a lot of fun with it. It needed a lot of body work, a new top, and a bunch of other odds and ends. I always wanted to make it a fun project but never got to it because I work as a tech at a very busy dealership, and on top of all that I have a million other project going on.

Well to make a long story short I recently purchased a 96 miata that was in a wreck, I will post pictures later. The 96 miata was modded with everything you could buy from Flying Miata. FM II turbo kit, Full FM exhaust, Harddog roll bar, coilovers, built 1.8L motor, fidanza flywheel, act clutch, Hydra II, 550cc injectors, performance brakes, pretty much the works.

I am not new to the world of turbo cars and bikes, I have built many for customers and currently have a couple of 3000gt VR-4's.. Also had a turbo hyabusa.

Well if you are still following this, sorry I know its long. I will be building my 92, I always wanted to do this project just did not have enough funds/time. Well I got a great deal on this miata with more than enough parts to make a 200+whp miata. I am a tech and have everything I need to build this little mosnter. I will deffinatly be doing a lot of reading and asking questions. Looks like you guys have some awesome projects and I have a totaly different level of respect for the miata. Thanks

Welcome to the club. Swap the 1.8L, motor, trans, rear, driveshaft and all to the 92 it will be well worth it in the end. I think you plan on doing this anyway but I am not sure I fully comprehinded your post.lol

Sean Thank you. Yes I am planning on swaping everything, its not that hard especialy when you compare the miata to a 3000gt vr-4 lol.

I just have to make sure that the drivetrain is fine after the accident. As far as I know the tranny is the same, but I would benefit from the torsen rear end...

Anyway thank you from the welcome and you guys will be hearing more from me.

Just an update, Today I spent most of the day pulling parts off the wrecked car. When you guys see the pictures you will not believe this guy is still alive and doing well.

My Plan is to do a full swap from a 96 miata into my 92. I will first do a bunch of research about the 1.6 to 1.8 swap, and later I will research more about the parts I need to find due to the accident. If anyone has any helpful hints or links post up, also N.E members I have a shop in newton MA so if you want to come down for a beer and lend a helping hand please pm me.

Here is what I pulled off the car today

Garret 2560R turbo- bad news its damaged I am sending it out to be rebuilt unless someone has other ideas.
FM Manifold
FM turbine outlet
Full FM Turbo exhaust including a high flow cat and sensors
Hydra II
W.e little odds and ends the FMII Kit comes with, really I need to get everything out of the cranage.

I dont know what condition the transmission is in but it has a act clutch and fidanza flywheel.

The car was smashed in the front so that means no intercooler, possibly no piping and I am not sure what else might be good or damaged. I will be cutting the smashed pieces off this week and we will see what I can salvage. I hope the engine is good.

For suspension and chasis the car has
JIC coilovers
A butterfly brace with frame rail braces
Jackson racing sway bars and links
It came with a hardog Rollbar, its the top of the line one but I already have one so this will be for sale soon.
I may be missing some stuff because I have not pulled suspension parts.

It also has some high end drilled and slotted rotors and hawk pads. So looks like I will be converting the 92 brakes to the 96 brakes.

Where are you located? I just recently moved to Springfield and am looking for a good shop. It'd be awesome to find one where they love to work on Miatas. I might just drop by some time

My shop is in newton MA, It used to be a FERRARI shop and when they moved to a bigger location we took over. You are more than welcome to stop by sometime.

Update- I am finally done with parting the red 96 I took off every single part, it was stripped to the last bolt. You guys should have seen the scrap guy:giggle:. oh and did I mention I got 50 bucks for it? lol

seraph 12-19-2010 10:30 PM

Too bad I didn't know you were parting a 96!:vash: I really could use a spare 96 valve cover.
