Can i get some opinoins from some pros?
Im looking to buy a miata, found this one near me and other than the price being high it seems unlikely that this is a M-edition. They say so and the VIN says so but other than that the options don't seem to line up. Possible its all been swapped out at some point and repainted but it feels fishy.
I plan on going to look at it later, is there a way to tell in person? Verify the vin? Any tell tale things to look for? Thanks for your expertise. If it's not green, it's not an M-Edition - even a car that used to be an M-edition and which was repainted orange is no longer an M-Edition - it would be an orange miata with an M Badge.

Cool and thanks for the reply. Though I'm not too concerned with the collectibility of the car. More the sellers honesty and the Torsen lsd. If that makes a difference.
|
That's not an M, it's overpriced, but it does have a torsen.
|
Is that the power windows/Torsen rule? Yea price is way high. You think the vin is fake then? As always thanks for the thoughts.
|
I'm betting it has an M-Edition dash board and whoever did the swap was a lazy turd and didnt put the correct vin plate back in. Would not buy, unless somehow that vin number on the dash matched the stickers on the door jams, the stamping on the firewall, and the oil pan.
Thats the vin a cop and anyone else checks, you really dont want it to actually belong to a chassis you dont own. |
1.8 NA w/ Power mirrors = TORSEN rule. At least as delivered from the factory. Exception is the 1997 STO.
|
Thanks again for all the thoughts and advice.

Just so you know, ALL miatas show up as m-edition/LE/SE, etc on the vin reports. Dont know why, but thats just how it is.
That's why you usually see stealerships list the miatas as an m-edition or other special edition when it infact isn't. Sometimes they just don't know any better. |
That's quite helpful! The dealership just sent me a pic of the door jamb sticker and the vin matches. Interesting.

hey fooger did you mean power windows or mirrors? I don't see power mirrors in this car.
|
Those certainly arent NA miata manual mirrors.

The A-Package cars have a TORSEN and no power windows. Power windows is not a good rule for determining if TORSEN.
|
Oh great and powerful braineack i do not see the controls for the mirrors! :p they should be the nearest spot under the left of the steering wheel correct? Looking through google images that seems to be the place.
|
On an NA the mirror controls are to the right of the steering wheel.

Not sure what you're looking at, then. It's on the right. |
Ah cool. I was looking at close crops of miata dashes. Didn't think about NA vs NB. Thanks as always.
