couldnt afford a S2000 so here I am

I am a avid Honda guy, start hating meow if you wish. I've been flipping cars and came across the NB 2000 Miata with 99k on the clock and couldn't bring myself to get rid of it especially with the steal I got on it.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1390358641 Not looking as clean as that anymore. Someone has beat on it a bit. Bought it broken, towed it home. Soon replaced the Clutch Master and Slave Cylinders. Jump started it started running decently pulled the CEL and got a new IAT it was pissed about got it running good. Then it was leaking found the Trans Rear Yoke seal was leaking got a new one from mazda and stopped off at a junk yard and grabbed a drive line off a 1st gen as the U-Joints on the original were causing the car to shake at speed. Now all is well, I really have no need for the car I have a DD and another car to toy with. But I figured I would give it a purpose so I aim to start a drift project and get it out to the track. This wont be my first Turbo build but my first mazda. I am looking to start off stock block and boost and see what can happen. Someone mind pointing me in the right direction to start cheap? Im no stranger to doing all my own work. Wrenching, welding, soldering, wiring etc. Who has the best DIY around, looking to make 200-250whp and build from there as time goes on. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks, James Also here is my DD RSX and Project civic if anyone is interested. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1390358641 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1390358641 |

All your answers are on this forum. Spend a little time, read some build threads, it will all be clear. The stretchy tire, fender rubbing, funny camber thing is a bit taboo here too, so that's something to keep in mind. It looks like you've got a decent start though, cheap is good. DIY is good, and cheap. |
I have been doing some poking around looking at others builds, setups and suggestions. No funny fitment tires stretching going on here, I have since sold the wheels on the car and its been raised. It has been chewing up the fenders and quarter panels. I might take the cheap way out and hide the damage with some fender flares. Which I seem to be having a hard time finding for the NB? I enjoy good fitment and style. No reason I cant have function and form.

I'm so glad you're actually fixing this car instead of leaving it "stanced" out.

Whats in the Civic?
|
Loose the stanceness, swap k series, win at life and ownership of a better car that an S2k wishes it could be. Also...

There are build threads with both of those motors on this forum. The k20 is bolted to the factory Miata 5speed as well.

I see that now. Almost seems to defeat the purpose, but it does seem right up my alley. But I have a perfectly good running engine here.

DOHC ZC, eh? Thats pretty cool.
My buddy used to have one in his old EG. The PO put vitara pistons in it, unaware that the DOHC had a much higher chamber volume than the SOHC D-series, so the compression was like 6.x:1 It also had the wrong distributor on it, so the base timing was retarded a few degrees. Long story short, the spool was hilariously slow. Are you on DSO? |
S2000s are awfully nice. But I still pass them on track. And when they break stuff, they cry because the car is not common and fixing it can get expensive.
So, if tracking is your thing (doesn't look like it is -- but you might give it a try), then you got the right car. |
JCDC5R, congrats on signing up at the best site on the web!

So, if tracking is your thing (doesn't look like it is -- but you might give it a try), then you got the right car. Im excited to get this thing going, not my first track experience. Been to a few WinterX events at Miller Motorsport Park in Tooele, UT and time attacks at my local track in the RSX. A friend and I have done several races in ChumpCar Series in our CRX. Great cheap fun racing, done AutoClub Speedway in Fontana, Laguna Seca in Monterrey California, Portland International in Oregon. More recently last 4th of July The 36hrs of Spokane in Washington State. |
