CT 1.8 Turbo Build

Hello,

I have been in the background here for quite some time just reading and reading and reading. I would not have dont half the things on my miata without you guys here, there is a thread for everything.

Anyways here is my story

I bought the car used back in September off a local. The car is a 1990 NA which had a 1.6 (obviously) and a welded Diff. I drove the car a bit the way i purchased it but soon grew to want more power.

I ended buying a 1.8 open Diff and had that welded to be posi all the time and put in Delrin Diff bushings while i was in there. My next mod was to swap out the OEM Motor mounts (which were so trashed they came out in 2 pieces.... BOTH SIDES!)

Then i ordered MSPNP and wanted to get my tuning skills good and learn the Megasquirt program on the 1.6 i had before i put in my 1.8 motor.

Here is my build list
Delrin Diff Bushings
70D Motor Mounts
MSPNP2
Welded 1.8 Diff
Upgraded Drive Shaft (servicable)
1.8 with 60,000 miles
Eagle H beam Rods
ACL Race Bearings
ARP Main and Head Studs
FM2 No electronics Kit
FM Clutch kit
CX Racing Aluminum Radiator
OEM Head Gasket
Heater Core Bypass
Momo Steering Wheel (With Quick Realease)
Bride Racing Seats
HardDrog x Brace Roll Bar
Color Matched Hard Top (Soft top has been Removed)

I am sure i am forgetting some things

Welcome. Why a welded diff?

Backwoodsballer 03-18-2015 11:08 AM

I love the feel of it, It does make slow driving a pain but once moving it is great. Plus i am planning on sliding the car in the future so i wanted to have it set up for that.

I do have intentions of buying an LSD in the future.

BTW i read through your entire build thread a couple of weeks ago. Your car looks great!

We have an influx of drifters joining lately.

How are your wheel bearings and brakes? Are the bushings in good order?

Mine was a 92 (also a new England car) and replacing the tired bushings will be one of the next things I do after I get it back up an running. Along with the junky questionable coilovers....

I am in that same boat. My bushings are due for some attention in the near future. I started with the motor mounts and diff bushings which helped alot and also the roll bar helped a ton with stiffness, but now all the flex is in the subframe bushings. I am also on crappy Raceland Ultimos which is hurting my driving experence (I really need to upgrade to nicer coilovers soon)

Welded diff is shit tier. An open diff would be better.

If you really like understeering all day and then getting hit with snap oversteer, thats cool, but dont expect to be fast and try not to hit anybody when you crash.

I do have intentions to purchase an LSD in the future but for now i am enjoying the Welded diff
