De-Noob Intro

Name is Nick, I like cars, beer and home theater stuff. Stumbled onto a good deal thanks to my great friend Ben, and had to jump on it (although a bit unprepared). '06 Sport with lots of goodies, and needing a little work. 2.5 with Cosworth SC, Ohlins, Tomei LSD, ACT 6puck, full exhaust, terrible looking wheels, OEM hard top. Now I am reading, trying to learn what I can about the car, and make many friends that will enlighten me in the ways of Miata.

Welcome. Fab up a rear mount turbo and compound it. Then we will all be your friends.

concealer404 08-08-2017 05:12 PM

This is my fault.

But it's ok, Nick is good people.

This is the Cosworth kit that Goodwin has been beating on for nearly a decade, it's at the core, a good piece of kit.

If anyone in the Tampa,FL area is around, I could use some friendly knowledge sharing. Bought the car with supercharger only boosting 4lbs, when it should be around 10. Flyin Miata has dicked me around for 5 weeks on getting a replacement Bypass Valve, but am very apprehensive about tearing things apart.

@sixshooter @Ryan_G

Could you guys help this poor misguided soul out? Nick has good taste in beer, i'm sure he'd buy you some.

Ryan_G 08-10-2017 10:18 AM

I'd be more than willing to take a look but my supercharher knowledge is not great and I will be out of town this weekend. I am not apprehensive about taking things apart though :fael:

Basically either the BPV fixes things, or the stupidcharger needs to come off and be sent out for a rebuild.

sixshooter 08-10-2017 11:11 AM

They don't last forever without a rebuild.

Are you a recent transplant to Florida or been here awhile?

NickBlaine 08-10-2017 11:57 AM

Per previous owner, SC should only have about 20k miles, but was purchased used. I would hate to take the sc off, replace the bpv, then need to rebuild it right away, or again in a few thousand miles.

Recent transplant to FL, just moved down here about a year ago from Indy.

sixshooter 08-10-2017 12:04 PM

What part of town? I'm actually out of Plant City but work in Tampa and surrounding areas

NickBlaine 08-10-2017 12:38 PM

Live in Holiday (near 19/Alt19).

Ryan_G 08-10-2017 12:42 PM

I live in Tampa Heights myself. Just for reference. We'll have to eliminate one variable at a time. Start with the cheapest options first.

concealer404 08-10-2017 12:47 PM

He's already got a BPV on the way, it's the cheapest option. SC supposedly needs to be removed to replace BPV. Case of "while we're in there...."

Also Nick: If you don't measure the dimensions of that BPV when you get it so you can get a pimpy Forge one later or something instead of dealing with FM again, i'll punch you when i see you in a month.

sixshooter 08-10-2017 01:15 PM

Holiday, huh? I'm thinking about what I know is in Holiday and I can think of a scrap metal yard, a titty bar, and a Northern Tool location.

Previous owner had a boost leak test done, replaced the pulleys and belt. Bypass valve was next on his list, so I started there buying that. Should hopefully be delivered this week.

Everyone I've talked to has run the stock unit, but I will measure it for you, as I know you really like it when I measure for you.

It sounds a lot better when I tell people I live in Tarpon Springs... Because yes, that is all that is in Holiday. I live about a mile west of the Northern Tool.

sixshooter 08-10-2017 03:59 PM

If you live a mile west of Northern Tool then you could probably say you are in Anclote.

What type of work do you do?

I live just off Anclote Blvd and Alternate 19.

I am a remote systems specialist/billings manager for a software company.

NickBlaine 08-23-2017 05:13 PM

Bypass Valve has finally arrived from FM/Magnuson. Ordered the SC Oil Replacement kit + Coupler from TDR. Should be delivered tomorrow. So who wants to help make horsepowerz?

concealer404 08-23-2017 05:15 PM

@sixshooter and @Ryan_G can you guys maybe help my poor friend Nick? He's a noob and i'm not there to help him.

NickBlaine 08-23-2017 05:23 PM

I will provide food and beer. And great company. Will be out of town 9/1-9/26 though.

I also own many a detailing gear.
