Default Jay from NJ - Hi, new to miata world and looking learn. Not an owner, yet ;)

Hey everyone,

My name is Jay, and I was browsing the internet a month ago looking for a fun inexpensive car, and eventually was lead to the Miata. What started out as a simple search has turned into a full blown obsession. I have been lurking around this site for the past month reading threads daily much to the displeasure of my girlfriend. I don't currently own a Miata, but I hope to in the near future. The girl wants a ring and a house, but I want I Miata. Once attained I will start to build a turbo street car. Will I track it in the future? Probably not, but I won't rule it out.

I guess I should start with my current skill and knowledge level. I have a basic understanding of automotive tech, and I do most of my own vehicle maintenance and modifications. I have owned two previous turbocharged cars both daily drivers.

2003 VW Gti 1.8t - I bought it new and it was the first car I modified. I did many bolt-on mods such as: turbo-back exhaust, custom intake, diverter valve, turbo inlet pipe, upgraded side-mount intercooler, Apr re-flash, clutch/flywheel, short throw shifter, and gauge work.

2009 Cobalt SS/TC - I bought it used with 90 miles on it. The only modification I did was the GM Stage 1 kit. The cars had several problems and with costs of living I downsized to my current car, the 09 Nissan Versa.

Back to the Miata -

Essentially what I hope to achieve from the Miata is a fast, fun, and reliable weekend car. My goals as of this point change with the wind. I have only driven a Miata once, about 4 years ago, and while a blast to drive, it lacked in the power department. Having never driven a turbo Miata, I'm not sure how much power would satisfy me. I have started a build sheet in Excel containing most of the modification I want and I'll post them up in my next post.

Thanks for reading and I hope to learn and contribute in the future.

Jay,

If you want to come check some out before you buy one, we have weekly meets in South/Central Jersey that we organize in this Facebook group...

Thanks, I appreciate the invite. It may be a while before I buy one, but I'm hoping not to long. Going from almost 300hp to 120hp is driving me crazy. I need some fun!
