Finally doing the greet thread

Hi all. I've been on here for a bit (registered just over a year ago), and hopefully conducted myself in a reasonable manner. I just never got around to this part. So, here it is:

I'm located in Rochester, NY - the heart of the rust belt. I've worked on cars with my dad over the years rebuilding cars (mostly Studebakers), and just restoration rather than performance mods. I am a mechanical design engineer by trade, and I've always been a car nut. I bought a 1994 base model after looking in vain for an older MG, Fiat or Triumph to restore and drive. Finally found one in Buffalo with 100K in the middle of February. Here's a pic of it just before I bought it:

Kinda hard to see in the pic, but there are loads of dings, chips and scrapes. The top was shot (rear window missing), and although the standard maintenance items were done (timing belt, radiator, WP, etc.), the car was not well cared for. The bumpers were both very badly faded. New stock exhaust, but no mods that I could see. Suspension was original. It had a manual rack, that was bad, so I put P/S on it. I may depower in the future.

Since that time I replaced the suspension with old style FM springs and KYB AGX shocks. Obviously, it sits lower now. I recently purchased a MSPnP and will eventually be installing a FFS coldside SC. Yeah, I know it's a turbo forum, but M.net is all a bunch of geezers, and I've always wanted a blower.

Most work to date has been cleaning and restoring the basic car. I got a new canvas top, have cleaned out all the carpets, polished up the bumpers and just tried to get it back into shape. Cosmetics are still rather poor, but lower priority than getting the mechanicals in shape.

So far, I've gotten lots of great info, and I hope to keep improving the Miata. I intend to keep it for a long time.

rleete; you have indeed been an upstanding mt.net member but we need more recent pics of your car. Let's see what you've done with it!

BTW, you still have time to change your mind on the SC (I did!) :)

Thanks. Well, it's a bit more shiny, and it sits a tad lower. Other than that, it looks the same. No recents pics, actually. I've bee thinking about some stripes or something to set it apart from the crowd, but it's really just another Miata at this point. I suppose I shouldn't mention the style bar in the garage...

My wife would kill me if she knew what I spent at this point. Getting more stuff before I at least try the SC would be suicide.

very nice, i love how mx-5s don't have to be loaded up with aero mods to look good. a lot of other imports need accents, but these cars are perfect from the dealer. Nice job keeping it clean, and x2 on the updated pictures.
