Finally saying Hello

I big thanks to the gazillion lessons learned, advice and scolding y’all do. Many have already confessed to their closet lurking and you can add me to the list. To start, my son caught the gear-head bug when he was 14 and now about to turn 18. I’ve had the disease since birth. A couple of years ago we veered away from the muscle and Vette projects to jump into our first Miata. It was a 91 turbo 1.6 setup that wasn’t quite done. Several months later we melted some pistons on the 9th life of that 1.6 on a 100 degree Texas day. Knew we wanted a 1.8 anyway so that was the time to build it bigger, faster and stronger. 1.8 + BP4W was our choice. Thought we were back in action this past January but the Miata Gods had different plans - melted pistons during the dyno tune. <<<deep breaths>>> <<<more deep breaths>>>

We picked up a beautiful Montego Blue 96 in February with a blown motor (now we have 2 BP4W heads) that was mostly stripped. That was good because we had already accumulated a lot of the good stuff, powder coating, etc.

Fast forward again to now: rebuilt even better, more goodies, gauges, etc. plus swapped all the good stuff over to the 96.

Short summary of the car is 1996 6MT, 3.9 diff, BP4W, 84 mm Weseco @ 10:1 + E85, Stance XR1 CO’s, manual rack, LS coils, ID1050’s, 264/264 Cams, Precision turbo and MAXX/Race ECU.

Getting the 3” DP and catless exhaust plus dyno tuning done in the next few weeks.

Thanks again to all of you that contribute so much knowledge and experience.

Interested to see how the spool data/what the transient response of that precision turbo is.

Very nice car. Welcome.

Thanks guys. We live in Fort Worth near TCU campus. Just finishing up my golf trip in Ireland plus a day at The Open and back in Dublin for the ride home tomorrow. The DP and 3” exhaust were finished this week. I’ll post the dyno data in the next few days assuming all goes well.

Update: Dyno came out to 203 WHP @ about 7 pounds of boost (EWG spring pressure). Fuelab FPR set at 50 psi and pressure is dropping as we go up in boost. Still running down that problem. Has a new DW300, -6AN line to dual-feed rail, stock return line. Wondering if we should have started with a higher pressure.

Cold air intake box pretty much takes up the last available space in there.

Nice, Neat build.

Wow, nice clean install! Welcome!

She made 405 hp / 280 ft lbs / 24 psi boost but we limited her to 7500 rpm even though it has a 9000 rpm redline. Leaving some safety factor and overall quite pleased with the results. We’ll make some more pulls this fall when it isn’t so dang hot. Weather was 97 degrees and 80% humidity yesterday at the dyno.

Great numbers!

Can you post the dyno sheet?
