Finally starting the boosted life.

Just picked up and older M45 S/C and about to pull the trigger on a MSPNP2. Pretty excited. Basically have no idea what I'm doing so I'll be popping in every now n then for tips.

Nice looking car, how low is that damn thing?! I would do a bit more learning before any more buying. The m45 is really small for a 1.8 and the ms2 is like 15 years old. just a heads up. State your goals and intended use, so we can provide a lot better help.

It's not that low, it's just mid-corner. :)

Woosh!

Good picture post up some more.

My goals at this point aren't too huge. I've been in Miatas for 10 years or so. This car I picked up minty stock at 35k miles so I wasn't in a rush to beat the shit out of it but its been 3 years and I've gotten pretty bored. The S/C kit popped up for stupid cheap and I couldn't say no. I figured it would be a good stepping stone to get a feel for boost and I'm sure I'll develop and itch to go further. But here I am and the ECU is the last piece of the puzzle. If the MS2 is dated then what should I look for? I mean the M45 is dated as well. There looks to be a MS3 in my area for a bit more, is it worth it? More pics by request: Attachment 228556 Attachment 228557 Attachment 228558 Attachment 228559 |

Do you have AC? Do you want to run sequential fuel and spark? Do you not want to live in 2009? If any of those questions have an answer of "yes" then you want the MS3. It is better in way way. I can not in good faith recommend a M45 setup to 1.6 people, for someone with a 1.8 it makes me want to say "bless your heart". Is this a red or tan dash? Attachment 228561 |
I have my eye on the same roll bar as well. I'm liking the front bumper more and more too... would a GV lip still fit on it?

I actually found a decent price on a MS3 locally so I'm pulling the trigger on that! Like I said, I found the M45 for stupid cheap so I'm starting with this and I can turbo later on down the road and sell this for almost double what I paid. Other things I'm needing are some gauges, currently looking at some AEM digital gauges. Doing a UEGO Wideband A/F and the Boost pressure gauge. Should I get any others to start? I don't really do TOO many track days, mostly AutoX so would OIl temp gauge be necessary to start? Is it possible to still run cruise control with the boost gauge or should I just delete that? It wasn't working on my last road trip anyways... |

Question, Do I need a rising rate fuel pressure regulator? I personally don't have any idea what that is. Sounds like something I'd need if I were doing a piggyback but the MS3 ECU should take care of that right?
|
Your NA regulator already references manifold pressure so fuel pressure is always the same no matter the boost/vaccuum.
If you aren't going with a huge fuel pump your stock one is fine. |
If you have MS you don’t need RRFPR. That is a gadget to trick a stock ECU. You will be ok with stock injectors up to 5-6 psi, above that you’ll need bigger. I run MS2 without issue but if I could go back I’d do MS3. |
