First miata and its a turbo

just got my first miata, its a 1990 with a full diy turbo setup. it is running 5 psi now but will be upped as soon as i buy bigger injectors. we built a few supercharged jackson racing miatas at my work way back in the day and i always wanted one just never got to it till now. the full diy one page answers really helped me figure out where i am gonna go with this.

wittyworks 02-08-2011 07:55 PM

Pictures please. And a parts list. Did you do the work yourself?

dustinb 02-08-2011 09:19 PM

What sort of engine management are you running? Welcome to the board.

mazstro 02-08-2011 09:45 PM

i will put up pics/parts list right away. no i got the car off a guy in vancouver that built it.
i did a search on injectors and they are stock and it is running 5 lbs boost right now,but will be ordering b2600 injectors right away and working on upping the boost.

Eric13 02-09-2011 09:59 AM

Welcome, and x3 on parts list/pictures also what did the guy tune it with?

kotomile 02-09-2011 10:56 AM

5 psi and stock injectors - I'm thinking an FMU.

mazstro 02-09-2011 12:33 PM

Yikes -26, I thought it sucked where I lived being 30-40, but wind chill makes it about 20.

and my wonderful 10 hour trip home out of 3 towns and 19 gas stations none had air,and forgot my tools/spare/compressor/jack/ had a great time dealing with it

mazstro 02-11-2011 12:09 AM

exhaust manifold is a bentek? if i remember right from looking early this morning
vortech fmu.
msd boost control box
t28???? turbo someone might be able to look at pics and tell me
rx7 turbo intercooler(assuming off a 91 or so turbo2)
stock injectors(cleaned and flowed when turbo built
not sure of bov brand looks chinese could be wrong
mbc run off the intake
custom built downpipe into stock exhaust(was in vancouver so had to pass aircare)and it will be 2.5" or 3" soon
equus boost gauge had egt before ???? not sure if i will put one back in
and not sure if it is running wideband o2

now i am probably gonna get ripped on but the search only part helps me and i know every case is different i just need someone to give me a rough idea besides injectors what else i will have to add/tune/build to run say 10 psi
it is currently running at 5 psi

18psi 02-11-2011 12:13 AM

looks like a hacked up greddy kit. don't think its a t28.
you need engine management as the 1st and most important step towards 10+psi

mazstro 02-11-2011 12:19 AM

ok that helps. what is the best route to go as far as engine management? and hope someone can tell what the turbo is then? i will get the numbers off it tomorrow at some point and throw them on here

dustinb 02-11-2011 10:51 AM

That is definitely the turbo kit, right down to the wastegate and oil feed system. It's a 14b mitsubishi turbo. And as far as engine management, go Megasquirt or AEM EMS.

Probably need a new clutch in that old bitch to run 10psi.

mazstro 03-01-2011 07:26 PM

has a new clutch(stock but new) and will not be rockin 10 psi for a while.

Might as well pitch the stocker today if you are going to up the boost. It's good for literally 20 hp more than the 145 that you likely have now.

mazstro 03-02-2011 12:17 AM

still have 20' of snow so no point doing anything till i drive the car the first time. which from the weather network will be 3 or so months away

Pen2_the_penguin 03-02-2011 12:25 AM

quite the hang time happenin there for the air filter...

mazstro 03-02-2011 01:39 PM

i am redoing all the piping for turbo/intercooler/maf right away

sixshooter 03-02-2011 03:52 PM

One of the sticky threads in the "parts for sale" section is for Braineak built Megasquirts. Braineak is a site administrator here and builds them to order for your needs and sells them cheap. There is no better bang for your buck with regard to standalone ECUs for the Miata.

Welcome and good luck.

curly 03-02-2011 04:46 PM

What's your location? Welcome. That's essentially the setup I started with. The more boost you add, the harder it is to keep a good tune. Hence my MS.

mazstro 03-02-2011 04:50 PM

i am in prince george bc canada

TurboRussian 03-02-2011 07:43 PM

Welcome looks like a great deal. Enjoy!

flat white with 17" anchors

viperormiata 03-12-2011 08:11 PM

I like the white, it looks even better with out the black stripe on the bottom.

Any idea on the weight of the wheels you have on now? They may just be anchors.

The 1.6 brakes look lost behind the big wheels :giggle: That is why I have 15's.

mazstro 03-12-2011 08:17 PM

not sure on weight i will weigh one next time i have them off if i can find someone to help lift one onto a scale. it is not going to be a track car in any way just my dd with benefits

93turboNA 03-12-2011 09:15 PM

welcome! like the flat white, might have to do that to my dd. needs a paint job anyhow
