First thing's first

I want to swap motors, right now i'm leaning toward a 2jz. other possibilities...1jz, ls1,2,or3, 302, or even 305. and at the bottom of the list is stroking my 1.8. Any sugestions on wich one won't complete break my bank account, or just wich is the best?

Your last option (stroker) will be the cheapest. Just throwing forged rods in a otherwise stock block and adding a proper turbo setup will be even cheaper. Unless you have great fab skills a foreign drivetrain will be 10-20K. Ford 302 will be cheaper than am LSx. The engines mentioned above which do not have swap kits will require fab work and your wallet to sort out.

i was looking at fm and just to get the motor built would be 7-10k, anywhere else that might be cheaper?

A stroker won't make that much power, don't waist your money. What are your goals and how much do you have to spend?

A built 2.0L from FM is still cheaper than pretty much any other engine swap as everything else requires a custom front subframe, trans cross member and all the other details....unless you are one hell of a fabricator. Build 1.8L for ~$2k, add turbo, have 400rwhp and call it a day.

I second this completely. What in gods green earth would cause you to want more than 400 WHP in a miata, :P.

Having done a motor swap in another car before it is the WORST idea unless you just have as mentioned above 15K or MORE for a swap and have a LOT of time before its done......

Build, boost. thats it
