Forums sure have come a long way... Hi

When I started looking at the original Honda-Tech forum 20 years ago I was amazed and awed. The feeling of community and all the cool new shit I was experiencing...wow. For the second time now I have come to the world of Miata's only to be shot down. The first experience was on ClubRoadster about 5 years ago and similar to my current one. Account locked for no good reason by some mod who would later commend me on the most straight forward "for sale" threads he had ever read. Hey I have not filled out all the little questions in my profile yet, am I evil? I get emails for replies to threads from a month ago but nothing to see if my account has been compromised? Time will tell I guess. Look at my pretty pictures!

So those cars are from over 10+ years ago. Nowadays I daily drive a Fit and have a Tundra to put bikes in and haul a camper. Picked up a 10AE for a song from an old fella in the mountains. He was the oldest enthusiast I ever met. Stock suspension and wheels but an First gen FM turbo kit! Whew. I have had enough from turbos and am actually going back towards stock. I would like to get someone in this community a shot a cheap solid kit. Here she is after removing a ton of Plasti-dip from the wheels, top, front lip, side skirts, mirrors, and every emblem on the car!

Cheers!

Squirrelometer just pegged OUT!
Looks like a project.
You're going to run into trouble unless you become a forum member, make posts that actually enhance everyone's experience.
You probably have enough background to have opinions that others would like to hear.
If you're just using the forum to sell your used parts...
It's not going to work.

Thanks for the reply. I joined a few weeks ago and have been lurking around. I bought some plug wires off a guy that was selling for a great price. I engaged in a thread that turned out to be old and the next thing I know...locked. No permissions to do anything. So now I start again. What’s the big deal if I want to sell parts?

If you are only here to sell stuff, you are not a forum member.

Thats fine. As long as I don’t need to pay a membership to be considered a forum member. That’s more where I was leaning.

I like to buy stuff too. The last time I contributed I got locked. 🤷‍♂️

Noted. Is that defined in the forum rules? I am not a bot and I am not an asshole.

Missed the part where I need to “contribute to ongoing discussion” as part of the rules. I am fully aware that I can be flagged as spam by a mod at their own discretion.

Maybe you need to look up the definition of "forum" because you don't seem to have a good grasp of it.

To be clear for everybody I’m not trying to pick a fight.

I fully understand what a forum is and what purpose it serves. What I don’t understand how am I being docked “cats” or whatever it is for one. How can I become engaged in a community if I don’t get a chance to be apart of it?

Theres nothing stopping you. The only barrier is to you posting for sale ads.

This is a message board first, marketplace second. Since you seem to be a honda guy, Ill put it into perspective. They could have let this forum be like honda-tech and allowed any dickhead to sign up just to buy and sell stuff. Look how that has turned out. Honda-tech is 99% garbage threads and doesnt even have a useful marketplace since their users have all just gone to Facebook.

Its called quality control. It doesnt need to be in the official rules. Its more like a culture.

It was 20 years ago when I joined Honda-Tech. Before it vacate V-Bulletin and was the original Forum model for the internet. I haven’t logged in there for 10 years. I’m a car guy that has gotten away from cars for a while. When you work on them for a living it drains any desire to then come home and stare at a screen about them. Are forums dead? I was just told they were from a trusted Auto-X buddy. 🤷‍♂️ A culture...so true.

Forum member asks questions after they have exhausted their searching powers.
Forum member do not resurrect old dead threads unless there is a really good reason.
When we make mistakes we own up to them.
Forum members don't BS at anytime unless it is "kidding another over his improper use of terms" (something I do too much) or something similar.
Braineack/Joe Perez going back and forth is a good example. I'm betting they are friends although sometimes the posts say otherwise.
When someone post interesting new stuff or ideas we discuss, maybe argue, and discuss some more. Helpful stuff gets posi cats, stuff that is not helpful gets neg cats.
I try not to post in threads where I am the "apprentice". I stay quiet and learn. I have not made a single post in the mega-squirt sections because of this.

A forum is similar to having a bunch of guys standing around drinking coffee in your shop. If the high school sends a class over you will put up with them for a short time and then run them out of your shop when you cannot stand it anymore.
Honda-Tech is more like a high school shop.
Miata turbo is more like a highly experienced tuner/engine building shop. Far less BS but much higher expectation of quality. The "signal to noise" ratio is higher here than almost any automotive performance forum. (thanks Emilio!)
When a stranger comes into your shop saying "hey I've got stuff to sell" normally you immediately think "what's the scam" and are careful. We are being careful here.
I haven't paid any dues for anything. I like this place well enough that I should but a paid admission will NOT help a new poster sell stuff..
Hope this helps define "forum member" I consider myself one.
What's sad here is you might be able to help others with your years of experience and you might be helped by others during the change back to stock on your 99AE.
I understand fully why you might want to change back.
You have a rare enough Miata that changing back is not a bad thing...

In case you were wondering what a positive contribution to the forum is. Well said Ninja.

Yes well said. To further the point I believe Emilio is an asset to the community. I had 6ULs on my first Miata and up to that point had always wanted a set for my Honda’s...just had 5 lug.

6ULs were a great contribution to the Miata/MX5 community. Emillio's contributions to this forum go way beyond that.

I'm sure they do. I have read some of his posts.

Why not? I dug a little bit and found some other previous cars.... @technicalninja where do these fall into your expectation of quality category?
