Glad to finally be here, from St. Louis, MO

Looks like I've finally found the right place for turbo Miatas!

My name is David Pardo and while born and raised in St. Louis our family is mostly in LA, Philippines, and Spain where I spend my vacations. It's easy to say the car scene in St. Louis is not as legit as I've seen elsewhere, no offense to any locals guys that may be reading this. St. Louis has car guys, we just don't come out as much and the events are rare. I miss them all the time, only been to one actual cars n coffee and watched an HPDE with this Miata. The roll bars do not pass not HPDE unfortunately, and fortunately haha. This is not a track rat car, and hopefully won't be until it sees way more miles.

I bought my uncles silver 02 MX-5 a few years ago because he couldn't get it to pass California inspection. Now it has 17,000 mi w the FMII turbo kit installed at around 8,000. The car is awesome, runs amazing although never dyno tuned (hopefully soon).

My uncle did most of the mods and everything on this car is Flyin' Miata.
It has the full FMII kit with the 310cc injectors and the piggy back Hydra ECU.

Recently replaced the cat after the engine code came on, now it truly has a full Flyin' Miata exhaust from the turbo back! Sounds great too.

The engine is NOT built, the turbo has not seen more than 10 psi because of this. It has also never been raced. Have an 87 190E Mercedes for that.

More to come because my pic uploads keep failing, thanks!

Always glad to see another FM car in this DIY+MS crowd.

Welcome! I've run our local track (Gateway) once and it was a lot of fun but those concrete walls are frightfully close. There are some really great tracks if you don't mind a bit of a drive - Autobahn, Putnam, and my favorite: Hallett. It's never to early to track your Miata.

DaKineMiata 08-19-2013 06:29 PM

I did gateway a few times in my 87 Cosworth 190E and those walls do make you more cautious. Turns 1 and 2 being the worst, but also makes for a really tough track. I'm going through a long rebuild of the car since 2010. In the midst of designing the turbo system, with a larger plenum with shortened runners with a Precision T3 59mm 76 trim and tune for 300-450 whp.

Picked up the Miata from my uncle because he couldn't sell it in CA at the time he had to renew his registration and coupled with personal issues it was a good deal for both parties. It's been a great car to learn from, the kit is beautifully done on the car. He told his mechanic to spare no expense during installation and no problems were ever seen with this car until the cat went bad and the engine code came up.

I thought I looked up the rules and my style roll bar, double hoop, was illegal for HPDE and possibly fails the broomstick test now that I think about it.

Awesome! i just moved from there about 2 years ago, but the first friday of every month, they did a thing called Midnight Madness. Do they still do that? there was drag racing, autocross, road course racing, DoRiftO, and oval track racing All in one night. lol AND a badass "car show" thing every time.

Also used to go to NOPI when they held it there. I got 1st place in the Euro class two years running (NOT riced out at all) lol

Nopi 2007, i competed in their redline Time Attack. Got my ass HANDED to me by an S2000 and an RSX, but it was fun as hell

Welcome, DaKineMiata. Check out the Miata Gallery and post up some pics!

You're going to want bigger injectors, my friend. :)

Is the Hydra really running in piggyback mode, or was that a Freudian slip?

DaKineMiata 08-22-2013 04:46 PM

Sorry for the confusion, but its the Hydra kit with the LINK piggy back :ugh:

Not the whole 9 yards but still a nice build. My uncle had no intentions of using this car to its fullest potential and was only intended for weekend use. Would have been crazy if my uncle had the whole motor fully blown with every option, the parts and labor into this car is in excess of 10k. Would love to build the motor to handle more boost, but I never intended on wrenching on this. It's completely reliable the way it is, boosting 9-10 psi on the reg on 93'. Will dyno tune it very soon but that's about all I have in mind for this car.

I joined this forum to see what other turbo miatas are like. It's nice to see the homebrew kits especially when they turn out better than any kit offered. I'm going through the home brew process on another car that has fewer production models than ALL turbo miatas put together. So I'm here to learn.
On my Mercedes I only have one shot on the motor I've built or else I've pissed away over $5,000 (which is only what I have in the motor).

Still haven't resized the pictures, I'll post a link to the album instead of wasting time uploading images I already have on the web.

You are still confused.

thenuge26 08-22-2013 06:21 PM

Nah dude, he has the hydra wired in as a standalone and the Link piggybacking on it

Add an FMU and strap it to a 1.6 and it will be the perfect anti-MT.net setup.

concealer404 08-23-2013 01:31 AM

Fuck. That sounds like something dumb enough for me to try.

My guess is that he has an FM turbo kit and a link ecu.

Erat 08-23-2013 06:43 AM

It's Hydra-linked.

lol

DO IT BEN!

I understand that Hydra is the ECU, my mistake was also thinking it stood an entire kit. But like I said I'm not here to brag about my miata, it's the mechanics of turbo charging I'm interested in.

I kinda figured. Nobody in there right mind would get a full FM2 hydra setup and then run it on puny 310cc injectors.

What are your plans? Just keep it running?

Considering the motor is stock so I'm playing it safe and treating her well. Not looking to blow anyones doors off or go street racing every stop light. The car runs so good right now I don't really want to mess with it. Just looking to maintain it and see if there are minor things I could do to further tune it but nothing more to the engine.

DaKineMiata 05-23-2014 12:40 PM

Since I'm not an active user I cannot post in the "For Sale" forum. Although I'm active on my 190E forum, my 2.3-16v project has been taking all my time as well as graduating from my CE program at Wash U.

Decided to move to Chicago for the summer and need to sell it and I bought a VW GTI for the city.

If someone could be so gracious as to help me list it on here that would be great, I don't want you guys to miss out on a car that's perfect for someone on here.

It has 18k miles and is in excellent condition. I have LOTS of pics and info. It's loaded with FM stuff. Comes with the FM clutch (not installed) and no tears on the softop or rust. Truly a garage queen as it was only used as a weekend car.

I'd rather list it here than send it to Auto Trader, Craigslist, Fleabay. Or you guys will probably find it on Ebay anyway, I know you all watch it like hawks.

It obviously has the FMII Link ECU (sorry for being such a Miata noob), or rather an EFI noob. I honed my skills on vintage Mercedes (Bosch CIS)

Have a good Memorial Day weekend and thanks for the great info on here. This is indeed the no. 1 Miata forum.

You can email me at davidlpardo@gmail.com for more info, or not if you think I'm too much a noob and not worthy of ever owning a Miata.
