My DD, 99 5 speed, 4.30 rear, no ABS. Many minor upgrades.

Trying to find a resonably priced way to tune my car. No really interested in Apexi stuff, and Ive had a Greddy Emanage Ultimate I dont like either system lol Currently using a JDM BP5A ecu, 7500 rpm rev limit. Really no need to rev past 7k tho lol

Ive been spoiled tuning and building Hondas on the cheap for 10 years. I also own a nuts 94 del Sol SI and a 95 EX Coupe.

I run a small privately owned motorcycle repair shop. And am the head mechanic lol

In front of my shop.

At the track...

Under the hood

A little teaser, Kevlar

So is the car for sale like your add on CL or are you planning on keeping it and wanting to actually do things with it? I drive past your shop a few times a week and I believe I talked to you a while back about getting some Dyno time and you said the dyno room was full of bike engine parts.

For tuning a Megasquirt is the cheapest best option. For a MS3 which is what you want, it will run you $800-1200 depending on exact models and such. It is around the same price of a updated Hondata.

Its for sale currently, Im really trying to get a specific bike that is avail right now. Ive had it up for sale ~3 times now, testing the waters... I will more than likely just keep it, its paid for and runs great. The reason Im willing to sell it, is because I cant do anything with it tuning wise. I cant spend the money on a MS PNP, and I have very little time to learn/build a MS.

If I can find a happy medium, I'll keep it. Im also currently in the middle of 2 complete builds. So $1k for a ecu is out of the question at this point. I build and repair and chip/socket Honda ECU's, a brand new S300 unit is $4-500 and about $20 to install it. Tuning Hondas is in no way comparable costwise to most any other brand.

My goal this year is to get more cars on the dyno, we are finishing up a couple drag bike builds. So we should have access to dyno time shortly. Please stop back by and we can talk over what you wanna do tuning wise. Thanks

Welcome to MT.Net lol I used to have a Del Sol once upon a blue moon lol Subaru is in no way comparable costwise to most any other brand even Honda lol Pretty fancy clutch for a stock car lol

I built a motorcycle once, a gs500 with gsxr750 front forks and hayabusa brakes and katana rear wheel and WORKS performance rear shock and it was slow as ***** because it was a gs500 so I sold it and made a Miata instead lol!!!11!111!!!one!

I guess I had not looked at the older hondata's pricing. Last I looked was helping a friend with a k-swap and the hondata was in the $800-900 range.

The happy medium at that point would be a used MS2 of some sort. You can probably find one on here between $400-$700 depending on how long you spend looking. Braineack sells new MS3X for $800 shipped. You still need a wideband for $150 or so, but you need that no matter what you get to tune with. There is nothing else in the market cheaper then an MS that is worth bothering with.

I can say that a 99 with 185k miles on it will never go anywhere near $5000 in this area. If you wait until a bit closer to spring you may be able to get close to 4k for it. The mileage really kills its value. Having Florida cars within a few hours brings down prices in this area a bit. I have had several friends get 99-03 miata's with less then 150k miles on them for less then 4k within 4 hours of driving around here.

Realistically I am looking for time on a load bearing dyno so I can do my own tuning. I talked to someone at your shop back in 2011 about your mustang dyno and at that time they claimed I could use it for load bearing, but they usually did not as most customers did not need it. Long term I a also want a dyno that I can bring multiple setups to and do back to back testing. At the moment I have 3 different turbo setups in my garage, with plans of building another 3-5 just to do testing with.

I will stop by your shop later today when I head up to hit up AirGas for some more argon. Will most likely be between 11:30-12:00ish.

Talk to Carlos:
https://www.facebook.com/BP-Performa...48847/?fref=ts

He makes plug and play harnesses to run a BP off of a Mitsubishi EVO ecu, affordable too. Completely tunable with whatever software the EVO guys use. I'm 95% sure he told me that he has built one for an NB before.

I thought the 99 cam/crank sensors were completely different then the CAS that is run on earlier miata's. So would the EVO ecu work with them? Could possibly switch to a CAS if they are not.

I believe you'd just have to switch to the earlier miata CAS, it will bolt right in.

Yeah would have to swap in an older cas and wire it in, not extremely hard or complicated.

I am just curious how much he charges for a php harness and an evo ecu. Do you have any idea? Also how much is the evo tuning software and how easy is it to use?

...and more importantly can you pass OBD2 readiness check like using a Subaru and a tactrix

Good question for others. OP is in the great state of SC where there is not emissions or safety testing. So not really an issue for us.

I've talked to him about these quite a bit:

1. He can retain the OBDII plug/wiring which should allow you to pass emissions in an OBDII car.
2. Don't even have to do any wiring yourself for the CAS... he sells these as PNP wiring harness kits so you just swap in the CAS and plug his harness into it.
3. I'm not sure how much a miata kit would go for, but for FWD/AWD BP's they have been in the $400 range depending on what options you get.
4. I've never used the software myself but the ones he uses are EVOScan (datalogging) and ECUFlash (tuning).
5. I'm debating getting one of these setups for my car, however i'm already pretty comfortable with Megasquirt and the car runs well so it seems a bit pointless.

The Evo setup is definitely interesting. I run a shop with a dyno, so Id love to do some testing...

Ill do some more research when I get home.

Thanks fellas!
