Default noob

Sorry, I posted in the wrong thread originally.

I don't have a Miata, but have been thinking about getting one for boost.

Right now I have a boosted Del Sol with a built motor going in it.

I'll be lurking around, trying to get info on building a high horsepower turbo Miata.

First question is Which year is best?

I assume the 1.8 better than a 1.6.

Am I correct in saying that the 94 to 95 should be a good year to get?

Thanks in advance.

Yes - look for a 99-00 head/manifold to bolt up. Post up some pics of the del sol project.

Welcome James Bond .

Thanks for posting your location below your Avatar.

Why don't you post some pics of your Del Sol in the meantime? It's not going to get too much love in these parts being as it is a front wheel drive car.

BTW, you made the right decision when you started thinking about buying a girly car like the Miata. You'll find all the help you may need here.

we need pics of ur sol, or else....

as for miatas,
they are as follows

the good/positive

simple to work on
parts are pretty cheap, as close to Honda parts as can be(i had a honda, i know)
take well to mods,
will handle like a lowered del sol
is rear wheel drive
boosting one is retarded easy
once you boost it and blow people away, you get this awesome WTF? look from the person you just beat
drop top, awsome for getting a tan/and the ladys
did i mention ladys love it?
if you de-badge it, its confused for something very expensive
people stare, because its uber cool, not just ordinary cool,, UBER....

the bad/negative

girl comments,
girl car
old lady car
wanna be Porsche

if u can live with the bad, go get one, now, dont even think about it, just go do it

Nice car! One thing though; that's either a very small car or a very large man inside

How much hp does the Del sol push. What boost level are you running?

My main competion is my cheap cousin and his del sol. Grudge match!!!!

I spanked him the other day. He said wait till I get my turbo. Now that I spent the extra on MS. He is backing out of turbo??? Just cause I am going computer doesn't mean he has too. He can run FMU.

I can't wait to get my turbo on.

I have the SOHC 1.6L motor(stock) with a T3/T4 turbo with intercooler.
It was tuned using Hondata.
I'm running 13 PSI and am getting close to 240 FWHP.

I ran a 14.2 on street tires and 13.8 on drag radials with LSD also.

What is MS?

Welcome aboard, you'll find there are a number of us here who used to do the Honda thing (myself included).

SOHC 1.6... D16Z6?

MS is short for MegaSquirt, it's become the management of choice, especially around here. Think of it like chrome or uberdata, in that it's opensource.

u should decide whether to get the 1.6 or the 1.8 based on your budget and goals. i would have preferred the 1.8 but the 1.6 was much cheaper.

I want to build a 1/4 mile car. So, I'm going to look for a 94-95.

I would like to get close to 400 to the wheels.

Right now I'm trying to get enough info to do that.

The budget should be around 15.

If that's your goal you might as well pick mikef85's brain someday. He's into 1/4 miles and built an awesome set up. Do a search when you have a chance. You'll enjoy it.
