Greetings from the Boston Marathon Starting Line

That's 26 miles west of Boston. You know, where we put our Miatas away for the winter so they don't get ruined, also a good time for upgrades! I recently changed the Miata over to 3.63 diff gears because my commute is all highway and I have to do 80 mph to stay in the high speed lane. Revs went from 4500 to 4000, and I can actually use 4th if the cops are holding the speeds down.
We just picked up an 08 Mini Cooper S, it has a beautiful engine with a twin scroll turbo that comes on at 1800 rpm and builds from there. The Miata with Goodyear Eagle F1's and FM sway bars will kick it's ass in the corners, but not straight line. And while my wife drives the Mini most of the time, I am feeling the need for more speed in the Miata. So here I am, planning something like a Voodoo II, but I don't want to give up drivability without boost. The Miata is running 15 degrees timing now so I am thinking I need timing retard as well, but more on that later :)

Welcome I am new here as well and I am from MA. I just started my turbo miata build... Good luck and enjoy!

Welcome, I'm new to Mass. (Springfield area). I love how the turbo just kicks right in with the Minis. Make sure you do your research on what you want to do with your setup. :2cents:

One major consideration in my choice of kit will be passing state emissions. Mass is plugging into the ODB II every inspection period next year, so the computer can't be throwing codes and has to have at least 50 miles since being reset. Is my assumption that a piggy-back system is better for meeting emissions test a good one?

I can't chime in on that because I just recently moved up here from Kentucky where there are no inspections or emission testing. I have a 90 though with OBDI. Plus I'm in the middle of sorting out my car so it will be a while before I can drive it.

I was wondering what kind of inspection my car will need once I'm done though.

Miatas up to 1995 have just gotten more valuable for turbocharging because ODB II testing starts with 1996 and up models!
