Mk1, mk1/mk2 or mk2.5 engine for performance
Hi,
Starting an engine rebuild next weekend with the goal to turbo the mk1 1.8, question is would it be better to keep some originality using mk1 1.8 and just strip and rebuild pistons/rods/bearings etc, rebuild with mk1 1.8 plus mk2 head or just transfer mk2.5 engine I have sat outside into it?
Main goal is performance here, aiming to finish project by end of year. With the mk1 bottom mk2 head do I need anything extra to fit.
also megasquirt pap or ME221 for higher power turbo build?

Initial HW and FW had quite a lot of issues, but I guess most of those have been ironed out by now.
The ME221 will probably work for you, but tunerstudio is nicer compared to MEITE and the new MS-3 Mini by Reverant is virtually the same money.
Some reading if you find it interesting here:

He has been caught lying in several different circumstances and your sister/daughter company Mtech has been telling customers not to install a Megasquirt because their cars will blow up on the dyno (while failing to disclose their relationship to ME).

I prepared a dissertation but the mobile app crashed so I'm just going to drop this chart here. You can compare the ms3 basic to the knock off 221 which is based upon the MS2 and has a much inferior algorithm for idle control. You do like to idle smoothly don't you?

that comparison guide is helpful, thanks.
i am more leanient towards megasquirt not from this forum but generally from most people running around 300whp seem to be running it.
if using megasquirt which model would be better for mk1 1.8 engine, 1050cc injectors, closed loop boost, bigger fuel pump etc? Starting stripping down the engine to bare block this weekend and can't wait, seen people running 350+ on the spec I'm using I noticed the other day so may grab more than 300.

I'm using the MS3 Basic from MS Labs. I'm driving a mk1 1.8 with 330whp (350 Euro Horsepower).
Reverent, who posted above, is the owner of MS Labs and is very helpful. He builds a great product. He is listed in the sponsor section of this forum. And they are in Greece so you don't have to pay import taxes from the US.

All of the things you mentioned have already been addressed and going around in circles doesn't help anyone.
To address the other topic. I'm sure you agree there are a lot of tuners around the world that only prefer to work with certain brands of ecus. Some ecus (not just megasquirts) were refused to be tuned due to concerns regarding the quality of the build and that the garage couldn't guarantee a positive result at the end. Since we've launched our ECU, a decent number of Megasquirts have been tuned there while at the same time other brands refused, so it just goes to show it has nothing to do with the name of the product. In regards to the actual words used, we'd need information on who exactly he spoke to from there and the full context.

You two have got to be the two worst businessmen I've ever seen. When confronted with major flaws and shortcomings, you repeatedly admit that "there might be some validity to it" (because let's face it, there is) but then continue to argue and "correct" people making them dislike you and your product even more. How about, for once, rather than trash talk and quarrel and argue with everyone, just try to embrace the community and try to get to the top by actually improving/rising and not simply trash-talking the competition? That's all you've done so far: trash-talk megasquirt and argue with anyone that doesn't see you through your own delusional eyes.
You think your product is better than megasquirt? PROVE IT!
Show us that your product is 100% capable out of the box, has not hiccups or glitches, everything works, is easy to use and intuitive, and not "different for the sake of being different from MS". Because so far, it's not. It's still pretty weak and underdeveloped and lacking in several areas from everything we've seen. Don't bother replying to this until you're a vendor and ready to demonstrate your product to people who actually know a thing or two about ecu's/tuning/etc.
