Greetings from NC!

Hi! I'm Mick and I'm from Hendersonville, NC.
I have two turbo Miatas. Both are SCCA logged. The white one is currently the fastest Miata ever up the hill at the "Chasing the Dragon" hillclimb in Robbinsville, NC. The red one I haven't raced yet, just an autocross.
I know quite a bit about cars and mechanics and look forward to helping out where I can!

Nice... Looks like some decent Miatas right there. Any under hood pics? List of mods and specs? They look awesome! Welcome!

Miablo 12-15-2013 05:31 PM

Hi Ryan! I'll try to get some under hoods tomorrow.
The red one has;
Momo steering wheel
full Traqmate system with integrated video
wideband LC1
6pt Hard-Dog double diagonal rollbar with door bars
Kirkey race seat
Begi Shanghai water cooled turbo kit with 3" divorced wastegate downpipe
3" Jackson Racing stainless exhaust
Methanol injection
KYB AGX suspension
15x7" Rotas
Shimmed RX-7 rear diff
Hard top
FM Link ECU with boost control

The white one is pretty much the same, minus the Kirkey, traqmate, hardtop, door bars and name brand exhaust. It sits on Tokico coils and 16" Rotas. It has 1.8 brakes as well.
Both are running ~230 whp @ 12psi.

When I ran my best time at the hillclimb, I did it on a set of R1Rs. Next time I plan to have the R comps on.
Here's my fastest run:

They'll let anyone on these boards nowadays!

Yeah, their standards were just low enough. I wasn't aware that they let chopped up, GM powered RXain't owners hang out on the turbo Miata forum! Maybe we'll rub off on ya and you'll come to your senses.

Thanks for joining, Miablo!

Erat 12-16-2013 07:06 AM

Fastest Miata up the hill??? I'm shocked by that, but good job man. I'd totally come down and do it, but damn that road is bumpy.

Pinky 12-16-2013 07:24 AM

Holy crap.. A new member who not only can type a coherent sentence, has TWO properly prepped Miatas, clearly can drive, AND uses Primus as the soundtrack to their video of them crushing a hillclimb?

You sir, I like. Welcome to MT.

Pinky 12-16-2013 07:30 AM

Ummm.. at 3:15 in the video, it appears that your right hand has decided that it's had enough of the tomfoolery and would like to exit the car or something...?

;)

Miablo 12-16-2013 11:57 AM

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Supe is my primary competition at the hillclimb. Don't let him fool ya, he is a much better driver than I am. It's just lucky for me that he has a Chevy engine in his Mazda!
Erat, you should come down! All roads are bumpy at 100 MPH! It isn't as bad as it looks.
Pinky, thanks for the compliments! You will discover I am quite the grammar Nazi. I slept through school (or was high) and quit when I was 16 and I somehow am still capable of communicating via written word, so it can't be that hard.
I thought the song was fitting. And since you can't hear anything but white noise from the camera once I pass 2nd gear, I thought it was appropriate.
As for my hands, I didn't realize how unruly they were while I was focused on something else till I recorded myself driving. However, I think I was making silly hand jestures at one of the workers.

Supe 12-16-2013 12:21 PM

Don't listen to this guy. If that white car makes only 230 HP, then I'm up for a second consecutive Mr. Universe in 2014. As for me, I'm a drag racer. I can't turn, I just drag race between them. Thankfully my car is now completely inoperable and will be likely reclassed the next time it runs, which means that unlike Mick, I won't have to suffer the embarrassment of getting my ass waxed by a ridiculous LS powered 240Z from Illinois, or the crazy Evo that's already been up Mount Washington and took its first baby steps at Road America.

That Miata is seriously dialed in. It was faster than the record holding CSP Miata by nearly 3 seconds, and did so on about 1/2 the tire. It was faster than most of the other Miatas by about 9-10 seconds.

Miablo 12-16-2013 12:52 PM

I keep telling ya to put that 383 in a Miata. I don't think any of us have a chance against the 240Z or the Locost as long as they are allowed to drive in the ditch. We need to band everyone together and ask for cones in the turns. It's only fair. At least when you are driving in the dirt, you're chasing trees!
And, I never knew you were Mr. Universe! I mean, I knew you were pretty and all...

Supe 12-16-2013 01:22 PM

I'm just going to come back in 2015 with Super Swampers on the thing, beef up the splitter, and take some more "shortcuts"...

Amellrotts 12-17-2013 12:08 AM

Mick,
While I was very impressed with your car when I met you I think TNTUBA can, and has, posted faster times on the TOD than any other miata. Clearly he wasn't at the race you attended but your introduction to THIS group should not be quite so arrogant. Eric (TNTUBA) grew up driving that road every day and has a VERY fast car that is set up for national championship competitions, and wins. You are no doubt faster than me, I think you would have your hands full with Eric. Glad you are here, there are a lot of great guys who will help when needed.
-Chris

Miablo 12-17-2013 07:11 AM

Hi Chris! Arrogance was never my intention. I've never driven on the TOD and I surely wasn't aware that there was a race ran on it. I'd definitely be down for some of that!
Eric should definitely come participate in the hillclimb... and you should too! I love competition! That's why I harass Bryan like I do. Speaking of competition and arrogance, the main thing that keeps me from being arrogant is the fact that, while I may be the fastest Miata so far, I am still twelve seconds behind the first place car in my class. The only reason I beat Bryan, is because he was having fueling issues. I was 4th fastest overall till Steve E. made one run and bumped me down to 5th.
I never claim to be good but I will brag when I accomplish something.

Arrogance? What the hell did this cat do that came off as arrogant? Are you talking about another thread or something, because I don't see it here.

(Seriously; not trying to be a dick, just don't get a cocky vibe from the dude, unless you're talking about the banter between him and someone who's obviously his buddy, which is Acceptable ShitTalking..)

Lol @ "THIS group"... We ARE a pack of magnificent bastards who others wish they could hang with, aren't we? Talk about *arrogance*.

Amellrotts 12-17-2013 08:16 AM

LOL.....Hey, I like the guy! Met him in person. He does have nice cars.....but I have seen "this group" of magnificent bastards, whom I have come to love, tear into a noob for such a declaration...."The white one is currently the fastest Miata ever up the hill at the "Chasing the Dragon" hillclimb in Robbinsville, NC"

Miablo 12-17-2013 08:32 AM

LOL! I see, now. Just a little confusion. Chris, the "Chasing the Dragon" hillclimb isn't actually held on the TOD. It is held on an abandoned road in the Joyce Kilmer National Park. It's close to the TOD and that's where it gets its name. It's all good!
I've been torn into before! LOL.

Supe 12-17-2013 09:58 AM

Don't let him trick you, he's one arrogant SOB. You should the entourage that follows him everywhere, and how he handles the paparazzi. A five year old asked him for an autograph once - he stole his lollipop and kicked him into the mud.

:D

BTW, all of you other Miata owners should come put him in his place at the next Dragon Hillclimb in March. Competition sometimes gets SO fierce and rivalries get SO heated, that the winner only gets a CHEAP congratulatory beer when all is said and done (but bring your own, because its a dry county.)

Miablo 12-17-2013 01:36 PM

This is the website for the Dragon Hillclimb.
It might be held on a public road, but it's a closed road. It is an SCCA sanctioned event and counts as a time trial event.
The car and drivers gear requirements should be on that page but if anyone had any questions, please ask. If I don't know the answer, I can find it or put you in touch with the right person.
That particular event does have a novice program.
